The Discontinued Classics/Pawnshop Shotguns

I've been perusing pawn shops for a used 20 gauge for the old lady and I'm bound to encounter some older Ithacas, Stevens', etc. which I know nothing about. I'm interested in pump, SxS, and O/U guns, but I'd love to stumble upon an affordable Browning A5 or something like that.
I'm sure some of us have old favorites that we grew up with, and I'm interested in figuring out what those are.
What are some of your favorite classic/discontinued shotguns that I should keep an eye out for?

Among the best of the bunch to look out for is the Remington 1100 made before the 20 gauge size frame was standardized for all 20 ga. 1100s in the late 1970s. Basically the older 1100s are a 20 gauge gas gun on a 12 gauge frame- that makes the gun heavier, but since most of the weight is between the hands it doesn't really feel heavier. But it helps cut down on felt recoil.

Just bought a Remington Model 11 off of another forum for 60 bucks!!!! The guy thought it was only worth the price of parts. I had to buy a new stock, front sight, mag spring, friction ring, lock screw and I cut the barrel to 18.5 inches. I fired it before putting any of the new parts on it though and it shot just fine! I am now fitting the stock. Have already sweated a new front sight on it.

Any automatic 20 gauge, nearly any 410. Pre Lock Smiths.

A J.C.HIggins model 20 would be a good find. It is essentially a High Standard shotgun. I'm not sure what model but more than likely a Flight King and I believe parts are still available thru Numrich.
The pawnshops in these parts are wise to Brownings and Winchester pre '64 shotguns and command a premium for them.
Ya never know, I found a early fifties model 870 that came out of an estate sale for 175.00 at a store here in Grafton ,VA.
I sold it to a collector as it was just too nice, in my mind, to use and deserved a place that my needs could not meet.
That why I bought the NEF Pardner Pumps.
If I bugger those up( I don't think I will!:)) I 'll better suffer the loss.
Any hoo, good luck to you and if ya find a deal GOOD ON YA!!:D

I've got a couple of Sears branded guns. Not Ted Williams, but the cheaper Sears brand. They both still shoot and look great.
I had a Sears double that was a Stevens 311 rebranded Sears too. Good solid shotgun that I ordered from the Sears catalog back in those Pre-GCA-68 days. Actually my mother ordered it for me since I was too young.
