You do realize that there's no answer to your question since it could 1 round of .223+X rounds of 9mm+Y rounds of .45 as easily as X rounds of .223+ 1 round of 9mm+Y rounds of .45.

Then there's the tall 50 cal can variable.

On the other hand if you're asking about how much of each can you put in a can full of one type, I'll have to look when I get home. Mine are in boxes though.

I don't know. I only use them to hold .50 cal.

150 loose
100 linked :D

Eric, if you're anywhere near Alachua County, I know a guy selling empty cans for $5 each.

I store it the way I buy it. Most is stored in their factory boxes inside ammo cans. I generally don't even buy much bulk 22 ammo.

Linked Ma Deuce stuff, 105 rounds in a can. Two cans for each of the four magazines on an M-16 halftrack; 840, total. Max tuning on each gun, 600 rounds/minute, but usually down around 500. Fire an upper and a lower in "fire a burst of six" mode, so the ammo handlers can keep up.

You can go empty sorta quick, though.

I have .223 in bags of 50 an some in bags of 100....I have just under 900 rds. in a can with room for a little more, some of my .50 cal. cans are marked for 5.56, 840 rds. those would be boxed an probably in bandalers......Handy aren't they!

I use the standard .50's I can get 1,000 rounds of 7.62x39 and 1,200 rounds of .223 with a couple dessicant bags as well.

Same can'll take 250 2.75in 12ga shells but that's packing 'em in carefully.

TOO MUCH! They get heavy. .30 cal cans FTW.

It seems like I've had about 2k of 9mm in one. Loose, of course.

I have 1K .223 in 1 .50 cal can. 800 on strippers and 200 in the "battle pack" they came in. Fits nicely.

Well, I can fit 1,042 rounds of .45ACP in a standard .50 ammo can. Staggered rounds of 230 gr RNL plus an MTM box of 50 FMJ 230 gr. It packs tight and it's HEAVY.

Just my experience. :D

i leave my ammo boxed so i can more easily keep track of how much i have. for a 50 cal can:

680 .223
1000 9mm

30 cal can:
400 7.62

all of these are monarch and/or brown bear.

It's actually interesting how .45ACP, even in its cardboard boxes (the kind with a plastic tray...I think there's about 500 rounds in there) is HEAVY, but 1000 rds of .223 isn't bad at all. I have another box with about 250 rounds of 12 ga. 10 pellet 00 buck, which isn't nearly as heavy as you'd expect-there's a lot of empty space, plastic, and powder taking up all the room. I suppose the same goes for the rifle ammo.....more powder pushing less lead=lighter tactical wheelbarrow of ammo.

Kinda adds to the old .45 ACP "slow & heavy" thing

I have placed 4 UMC bulk pack .45 acp(25 each) into a single can.
I have put 12 Federal bulk pack .223 (100 each) into a single can.

I prefer to leave it in a box if I can.

As already noted, a full 50 cal can is heavy.:( I use 50 cal cans for STORING ammo and 30 cal cans for CARRYING ammo. I just transfer the rounds as needed. I typically have a 30 cal can of each caliber that I regularly shoot "at the ready".

I find that a couple of 30 cal cans is usually sufficient for a range trip - the only exception is when my youngest son is "helping" me shoot. Our last trip to the range included 120 rounds of .30-06, 80 rounds of 7.62 TOK, 150 rounds of .357 Mag and 500 rounds of .22LR - all fit nicely into two 30 cal cans, (with magazines) and nobody got a hernia.:)

I know a 30 cal can holds about 400 rounds of 7.62x39.

I have 1,000 rounds of .40 cal in 50 round boxes in each of my 50 Cal cans. I have found that the surplus cans with desiccant and humidity indicators is the way to go for storage. I have thirty 50 cal cans full for what if the SHTF and two 30 cal cans for range use. I have at least 1,000 rounds for each of my guns to include shotguns.
