Concealed Carry

For those of you who do not know, carrying a concealed weapon for peace officers is not automatically reciprocal in other states. Several states (the majority) do not allow peace officers from other states to carry concealed while vacationing, etc in their states.
There has been, over the years, several attempts to rectify this in Congress, by passing a law. After 9/11, there was an upsurge to pass the bills. Homeland and personal security being the main reasons.
I urge the peace officers and private citizens on this board to help pass the necessary bills by contacting their representatives. Here is the link:

"Peace Officers" should be treated EXACTLY like all other citizens. If they want to carry out of state than they should get the same credentials that non peace officers require.
I am therefore opposed to the special treatment afforded "peace officers" by HR218. If, however, the text was changed from:
"SEC. 2. EXEMPTION OF QUALIFIED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS FROM STATE LAWS PROHIBITING THE CARRYING OF CONCEALED FIREARMS."
to:
SEC. 2. EXEMPTION OF ALL CITIZENS FROM STATE LAWS PROHIBITING THE CARRYING OF CONCEALED FIREARMS."
I would support it whole heartedly.
That being said, I hope that we someday soon can all carry anywhere we choose in this country and others. "Peace officers" included.

I agree w/ tiberius. Expanding the rights of government agents doesn't really have a trickle down effect to us peons.

If I can't do it, why the hell can he just because he's part-time sworn Joe Donut for the town of Phlegmball, population 782?

I agree and have opposed this type of law that only applies to LEO's.

Mike, this silly bill even extends to "Retired Law Enforcement Officers". The "Us vs. Them" attitude of these people is really showing on this one.

I would support the bill if it included reciprocity for all CCW holders.

When police agencies go on record supporting the same for CCW holders, I'll contact my congresscritter to support you.

And...
Unless more acutely defined in the bill;
"Retired" includes some who were retired under less than stellar circumstances.
Moot for me as I am against the whole thing.
Discriminatory.

I dissent from the majority opinion here while acknowledging their points. However, one thing the law loves is something to copy from.
I believe a federal statute such as this would be readily adaptable to modification to include non-LEOs as well. IMHO.

Is that why I can use standard magazines stamped "LE ONLY"

I don't support special exceptions for special classes of people. That's not the American way.

And do you think the police unions will support or oppose modifying the statute to include CCW holders?
Don't kid yourself, they'll fall over each other to get their picture taken with Charley Schumer and go on record against arming the peasants.
