Our Main Street Organizations produces a re-enactment of a gunfight on the town square. The actors use Fllipietta .44 Cal. brass frame pistols. The shoot 6 rounds each week (there are four pistols). That is 60 rounds (blank of course) fired each season and has been going for 10 years so the pistol obviously have been fired about 600 time. They have been properly cleaned and taken care of with nipple replacements, etc.
There is one fellow who has decided that we need new pistol and says that these firearms are dangerous. I need some input.

Dangerous? Your reenactments aren't done with the cylinders filled all the way to the top with 4F, are they?
I'd keep the powder charges low. You don't need much to get a bang accompanied by a flash and powder. Remember, blanks don't generate as much pressure like a gun with a bullet.
If you're really that worried, magna-flux the cylinders and inspect the frames for wear.

Pappa, welcome to the forum!

I agree with 4v50 Gary. There shouldn't be a thing in the world wrong with the revolvers other than normal wear.
There is one fellow who has decided that we need new pistol and says that these firearms are dangerous.
Could it be possible the guy was thinking of offering to "dispose" of the "unsafe" revolver(s)? Maybe by personnaly safeguarding them? Just wondering.... .

Please expand on why that fellow thinks they are dangerous...firearm too old...because they are made by Pietta...because they have brass frames...because he thinks BP is dangerous...
Just curious as to what his reasoning is. Maybe he works for the government and it is in his DNA to spend money even when unnecessary.
You can always have a gunsmith look at your firearms to determine if there is a problem with them. From what I've heard so far you should be good to go for another 100 years.

As to the fellow who is wanting us to buy new guns (4 @ $1150.) he said that there was an incident where one of the guns blew back some material, not metal. As I have found, the pistol had been loaded twice, so chambers were likely full. Even that doesn't seem extremely dangerous to me.
Then he says that the caps won't stay on the nipples. New nipples should solve this but they have been replaced in the past so go figure.

Id say you have a nipple problem more than anything .What size caps are you using. Examine the recoil shield to see if its imprinted. I prefer to believe a set of Tresco nipplrs will solve your problem

It is my understanding that they are using 11 cap and crimping it down a little as a 10 will not fit. Something seems strange here???

Sounds perfectly normal, to me. I do the same with my Piettas.

Well, if you are using 11s and crimping them down a bit, I would first buy yourself a tin of Remington #10 caps. They seem to be a perfect fit for my Piettas. I have never had one blow loose. A tin of caps will cost you 5 bucks and you will get more than enough practice to know if that will solve your problem or if you need to do something more drastic.

The guy who wants you to spend $1150 to replace 4 $130 guns wouldn't be named Rahm Emanuel, would he?
