Its been 10yrs since I've been there. But this Outdoor range was at some large park very near to I-65? or I-465 not sure? My parents live in Carmel, Ind. So I head down that way about evey 2 months.
Dose anybody know what range I talking about

Sounds like Eagle Creek off 56th Street (by the Colts complex).

Call Indy Parks for hours. Good shooting, HTH.

The Boone County Conservation Club and Shrine Club in Lebanon IN (about 20 miles west of Carmel) has an outdoor range. I'm not sure what the cost is for a membership now. It was about $25 annually. they can be reached at 765-482-4614.

PD, to follow up on what Cap'n Ken said, if you are looking to join a club in Indy, you may want to try the Marion County Fish & Game Club. They are on the westside on 136. Pistols and rimfire rifles only.

My father is a member there so it must be VERY cheap to join.:D

Cap'n Ken, good to see you. I'm going to the hairy-chested West this year. Teaching any courses this year?

I was originally scheduled to Coach a Masters Pistol Course in June that, unfortunately, conflicted with a family vacation.

However, I will be Coaching a 556 for Pat Rogers in May.

When are you going and what class are you taking?

Tejas in April is a definite. Trying to decide between 499 in June or October. All depends on what partner I end up with (I refuse to take either with an unknown). Both Lone Ranger and Doc SWAT are married and afraid to commit without going through channels.:p

What pistol course are you guys talking about:confused: I'm about 1 1/2 hrs north west . I be willing to drive down. As long as it didn't land on a "Drill weekend"

Hey, PD, Cap'n Ken, in addition to being one swell egg, in also a professor emeritus at Gunsite Training Academy. www.gunsite.com (http://www.gunsite.com)

However, I think he still teaches intro classes at his SD. PM him to find out more.

Did you call Indy Parks?

Yes, plenty. The next big one is the 1500 show at the State Fair Grounds on 38th Street. Late January, 2003.

June is a bit warm, but not too bad. October is one of my favorite times of year. (Murphy's restaurant has an excellent Octoberfest brew as well.) If you time it right, I think the 499 runs into the Gunsite Alumni Shoot. I usually beg my way into helping with one of the courses prior to or following the GAS Match so I can be there for the match.

A good time had by all. If you contact Gunsite, they can advise the date of the GAS. I believe it is October 11.

There is supposed to be on at Stout field Armory near the Airport this weekend. However, it has been a weak show the last two times I've gone there.

The Indy 1500 that Kirk mentioned is a very worthwhile show.

poopoo upon the Stout Field show. When the 1500 is in the same town four times/year, Stout is just too little.

Just a couple of quick notes regarding the two Indianapolis area ranges mentioned earlier in this thread.

Marion County Fish & Game
Nice people, but due to encroachment by residences around the facility (stupid zoning decisions, since the club has been there since 1907), the only shooting permitted is rimfire handgun & rifle, centerfire handgun, and blackpowder rifle & pistol. No centerfire rifle of any sort. They do a good job of holding various handgun matches there on a regular basis, such as pin shoots, and bullseye matches. One hundred yard maximum range.

Boone County Conservation
Very limited facilities and limited hours. No shooting benches, other than one at 100 yards, which is also the maximum range. Besides monthly trap shoots, I am not aware of any organized shooting events at this range.

While I do shoot at both ranges on an occasional basis, I believe that Wildcat Valley just north of Lafayette is a much superior facility to both, and much more active in the form of shooting events being held.

FWIW,

What kind of facilities do they have for shotgunners at the Boone County Conservation club? My wife wants to shoot clays.

Thanks

Ted

IIRC, they have a single trap range. Nothing fancy, but it will give you an outlet for some simple practice. My understanding is that there is a monthly trap shoot. However, I don't recall what day each month it's held. Best bet is to show up for the monthly meeting on the first Tuesday of each month. I believe that they meet at the facility in the building adjacent to the range gate at either 7pm or 7:30pm. You can get your membership at that time, and then find out what day the trap shoot is held and look over the facility.

HTH,
