A wife and a percussion revolver have a lot in common. both can be frustrating each can give joy. Both shouldn't be neglected after using them, but a women will cost a hella've lot more than $179. Buy the gun and then join a seminary.

I got the Remington 1858 44 for $218. Its the one that's case hardened and has checkered grips. Looks much better than the plain one. It is listed online at that price and Cabela's will honor that price at the store. Just take in a copy of the sale price.
And remember it's always easier to ask for forgiveness than it is for permission!!! And you get to keep the gun!

When I found a gun that I wanted I bought it. My wife asked "What's that". I said its my Fathers day present so make sure that whatever you want for Mothers day is in the $250. range. She had no problem with that.

COD,
What I did was just call the nearest store, and ask if they have any in stock, I was pretty sure they did not, and I had them order it over the phone and they shipped it directly to me, just opened the box 10 min ago in fact.
Just tell them you have a coupon and you would like the sale price.
they will honor it. Instead of sales tax, I live in a diff state, I paid shipping, not much diff in price.
good luck
Dave

The coupon doesn't have a code, unfortunately. Otherwise I'd be more than happy to share it with you. Might try Kal52's approach.

I love having a hunting, gun toteing, truck drivin wife. :)

Hell, I've got one, that's never been fired (in a presentation case no less, with bullet mold and powder flask as well) that I've been trying to unload for years. I can't get rid of it, even for less than that.

Someone with the book look and let me know.

I received one in the mail and when I visited a local Cabela's yesterday, there were a bunch of coupon booklets out on a table for customers to take as they walked in the front door. And there were more of them being offered around the store for customers to take. But they didn't have any of the base model 1858's in stock, and the store guns are more expensive than the online sale prices.

Well, I guess everything happens for a reason. I was in Cabela's today, and there was a Pietta 1851 Colt for $120 in the Bargain Cave. Seemed to lock up tight, the only problems are some dings where someone apparently used a metal punch to try and remove the wedge. The wedge screw is buggered up too. A new screw for $3.50 from Dixie Gun Works and a little elbow grease and cold blue and it should look almost new.
The wife agreed this was just too good of a deal to pass up :D. I prefer the looks of the 1851 anyway, so I guess maybe it's a good thing she didn't let me buy the Remmie!
Anyone have some ideas on the best way to smooth out the dinged up metal around the wedge? I think I remember seeing a thread here once that showed how to remove the modern text on the side of the barrel, so I imagine a similar procedure would work. Heck, while I'm at it I might as well remove all the reproduction marks.

good luck with your new shooter, hope it works out for you.
I actually was at the store yesterday to return the one the I had sent to me last week. I decided to check out the bargain cave and low and behold, about 8-9 remmies on the shelf, most with the same hammer problems that I had, some worse off than mine.
they did have a few of the stainless models but 2 of them were very abused the other was too spendy.
I opted to just return it and wait for something else. hopefully Ill get a 5.5 inch remmie sometime soon. I think that they may have gotten a bad batch this time around, and they didnt have anything in stock that caught my eye.
again have fun with your new gun
