Hi - Could you guys recommend a inexpensive bore light for a gun newbie? All the ones I've seen are very inexpensive (less than $20), so I'd like to keep it in that range.

Also, what's the best way to inspect the barrel of a run-of-the-mill Winchester 94? I'm familiar with checking barrels on bolt actions and revolvers since that's about as easy as it gets, but I'm unfamiliar with lever guns (although I hope to change that soon).

Cheapest bore light is a folded piece of white paper.
Insert it in the open action and shine a flashlight or overhead light, the sun, etc. on it to reflect light through the barrel.
I often just use my thumbnail if nothing else is available.

Next up is a cheap dental mirror from the chinese junk tool bin at the hardware store.

Following that, cheap borelights with a bent light tube attached.

Thank you! When I bought my SKS and Golani Sporter, the guy had the exact Remington bore light you linked to. He let me use it and I thought it was pretty swell. I think that's what I'll get.
