The next few weeks should prove interesting.

The NRA has promised to bring a great deal of pressure to bear if the Govenor does veto the bill. They will target the 5-7 weakest senators who voted against CCW this year, and we'll simply pass it veto-proof next year.

What the govenor needs to decide is if he dares risking getting veto overridden on everything else, starting in 2004 if he loses those 5-7 senators, as well.

He does have wiggle room. Wisconsin is not a "pocket veto" state, if he simply refuses to sign it for a month, it becomes law by default. Sometimes he or his aides uses the word "veto", sometimes the phrase "he refuses to sign it" in cunjunction with CCW. On the surface they sound the same, but legally are two opposite things.

Gov. Doyle could then go on campaign in front of bliss-ninny groups and voiciferously claim "I REFUSED TO SIGN CCW!" and get all the psychophantic (gratuitous edit :D ) applause he wants. But we got our permits. I sincerely hope he looks at that lame-duck Holden down in MO and does the politically savvy thing. He has to know that if CCW gets vetoed in WI, we will surely remember come time for the next election. But if CCW passes, the bliss-ninny's will have forgotten you can even get a permit by then and be onto something else.

...get all the psycophantic applause he wants...

I've never seen "sycophantic" spelled that way. Frankly, I like it!
