When using the 'Search' feature is there a way to exclude certain words or phrases from the search results? With some websites you can omit words from the search results by putting them in () or placing a - in front of the phrase. That doesn't seem to work here. Is there some other way to exclude words from the search results?

Sorry, there's no way to do what you want to do with the built in search engine. It is very primitive by modern standards. Your best bet if you want to do a more sophisticated search, is to use Google. Simply add "site:http://www.thehighroad.org" as the first search argument and the search will be limited to THR only.

Thanks Mal H, the Google aid works pretty well. Putting a minus sign in front of the expression I do not want to not include seems to work well. If multiple expression to not include, each needs it own minus sign. Good job! Thanks.
