Well, I've got a feeling than an exposed metal backstrap on a lightweight .44 Mag will be hurting your hand, too...

Very nice! Great carry piece - how much did it run you? (if you don;t mind the question)

Whoops, sorry for the misleading post :o

I don't own the above revolver but it sure would make a nice .44 special carry gun :)

I figured the same thing, but actually couldn't tell the difference—unless, of course, the stock panels are loose, in which case, the gap or gaps tend to bite your palm.

Hmmm ..... ''donate'' one to my collection and I'd be well pleased to own it and let it live in my safe.

Shooting it?? Doubt that would be often and as for a carry piece ...... no thx! Love wheel guns but not this short in a major cal.

I like them, but $1200.00?!? That will hurt me more than the recoil of the gun. I think the 4" looks more balanced. But can't beat it as a very powerful, lite weight gun.

I'll second the .44 Special carry. Lots of loads that work or should work. 300 gr LHP at 800 to 900 fps should do fine. ;)

2 part answer:
First of all a 2 tone revolver just doesn't warm up to me.
Second I never understood the need of ports. If recoil is so bad you need to bleed energy off a bullet and redirect it to control the firearm then why not just step down in cartridge power? How can setting off a flame thrower in your line of sight help with the second shot if vision has been reduced?

There will be a waiting list.
They will sell them as fast as they can make them.
But not to me.

...but $1200.00?!?

If that's really the price tag, I'd say it's quite a few miles past ludicrous.

I've seen one at Cabela's here in KC, KS but I didn't even check the price. An SP101 is bad enough, I don't even want to thing about this monster.

Is it titanium/scandium? I'm not much for muzzle brakes but I'd put a cylinder full thru. Bring it on, Otis! ;)

How can setting off a flame thrower in your line of sight...

Haven't fired many 3" .44 Magnums, ports or no ports, have you? ;)

Any short 44mag is going to produce a huge fireball. Ports or no ports.

Still, it's a nice revo. Would be strictly 44spl in my hands hehe.

I wonder how close a shave one would get if one was to fire this gun from a close weapon retention stance?

I was taught to cant the gun away from me when firing from a retention position. Oddly, this had nothing to do with ports or compensators, but was presented as a means of ensuring that an autopistol's slide wouldn't foul on my clothing...

"I was taught to cant the gun away from me when firing from a retention position."

Which, on a revolver, can nicely direct cylinder gap spray right into your face, negating the purpose of the cant in the first place...

negating the purpose of the cant in the first place...

The "purpose of the cant in the first place" was, as I indicated, to keep an autopistol slide from fouling on your clothes.

Ironically, haven't had any problems with cylinder spray, though. Maybe someday I will.

re: Cylinder spray from a canted gun fired in the retention position.

1) As a rule I try to avoid owning a revolver that spits excessively.
2) The bad guys face will be mighty close to it also.
3) YOU know when to close your eyes.
4) If you're that close and have to shoot... punch it and pop it. A contact wound is NASTY!

Just my tuppence.

Amen on the contact wound... I saw the autopsy results from one such shooting. The weapon was a S&W snubby, loaded with the 158gr. LSWCHP "FBI load". One round was fired into the appendix area with the muzzle pressed into the felon's body. He collapsed and died right there, even though no major organ was directly struck by the bullet. The autopsy revealed that although the exterior wound in front was just a small hole (not even powder burns - the clothes had absorbed these), inside the body, the effect of the muzzle blast being directed into the stomach cavity had been a bit like a hand grenade going off in there. Massive internal cavity, and major blast trauma, with large and small intestines and the bowel literally shredded... The shock to the system overall is what killed the guy.

I was First on Scene to a barroom shooting around 1978. Guy walked in with an H&R Topper 20ga. He was yelling and swinging the gun around saying he was looking for some guy. A different guy was shooting pool and said "Man get out of here with that" and pushed the muzzle away. First guy sticks the 20ga in his stomach, pulls the trigger, turns and runs out the door.

I just happened to be about 4 houses down the street, on the sidewalk, when a girl ran out yelling, "Someone's been shot!"
I ran inside and it was maybe 2 minutes since the shot was fired. The guy was stone cold dead. He was already turning blue and getting cold. There was NO blood flow just a hole the size of a quarter in his stomach. He still had the look of suprise on his face. That was the first shooting victim I had seen and I'll never, ever forget it.

Like I said, A contact wound is NASTY! But it's very effective.
