Are police trade-ins serviced before they are put up for sale? Do they come with any type of warranty? Are there any places on the net to find them?

Over the years I've bought quite a few police trade-ins. They have been carried much, looked pretty bad, but were virually unshot. Look them over and you'll find some real bargains.

Really depends on what firearm you are talking about. Aim surplus has S&W autos that are police turn ins, I just bought a S&W 681 police trade in and it is a great gun. Nothing wrong with it at all. After seeing many police trade ins, I get the impression that police officers take care of their firearms if it a personal firearm. Unlike most military surplus I see.

The only warranty on any used gun would be that provided by the seller; the police department would not necessarily have serviced the guns before sale and would not provide any guarantee.

That being said, most police guns receive routine service by trained armorers and are in good shape functionally if not always in appearance. In general, as others have said, police trade-in guns are carried a lot, shot little, and are great bargains.

Don't let the finish wear fool you, look at the internals and the bore. You may be surprised, and get a good deal.

Kiesler's is one of the largest police distributors in the nation. A lot of the police trade-ins they sell are guns that they sold originally. I dealt with them for almost 10 years (since they were a one man operation and Doug was Police Chief in Greenville). I used to go over and hand pick the ones I wanted and have never seen a really bad one from them.

KY Imports is very good also.

My S&W 6906 was bought at KY Imports, it is a used police pistol. This pistol has some scuff marks on the grips and a "handling" mark or two on the slide and frame, but the internals are bright and shiney and look pretty new, once I got the pistol cleaned. This pistol now has @500 rounds through it without a hiccup. I would do it again. HTH, Mike

My Glock 21 was a police trade and its been great after a recoil spring replacement.Be cautious though, some police trades are just plain worn out and arent a good buy period.

Depends on where it came from. Up here, I've seen cop sidearms rusted shut. Most of 'em only get/got fired at the annual qualifications so they're virtually new. Mind you, cop guns(and military firerms) don't get sold to taxpayers up here. They get chopped.

A word on KY Imports -- in my experience, 2/3's of what they advertise is stock they 'expect to have'. Some of it just never comes in.

As for places on the web, kyimports.com

I have purchased a surplussed Sig 226 from AIM surplus
(www.aimsurplus.com)
The finish was beat, but mechanically the gun is in great shape.

I think there are a lot of refurbished police trade in Glocks WITH a warranty.. I've seen numerous ones for sale over the years anyway.

I've never bought a "police trade" gun, but iI've seen many that were nice.

They can be a great buy. One local store here used to have factory refurbished Glocks all the time & I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. Dittos for a lot of good revolvers.
