It's "hip" in Hollyweird now to be violent, but without guns

The slew of "hot women, heavy violence, but no guns" seems to be the slant hollywood is taking nowadays.

Angel's, Angel's 2, Kill Bill..

So I guess they are saying "we aren't against violence, just guns"??

I recall reading an interview when "Charlie's Angels" first came out. Drew Barrymore said, and was happy, that their characters were able to mix it up without guns.

Remember the weapon of choice in "Sling Blade"?

MmmmmHmmmm.

Come on guys. Everyone know that a man hacked to death with a mace or samurai sword is not as bad as a man being shot.

Without guns, the biggest team wins.

re: "Kill Bill"

Did you know: It's much more humane and socially acceptable to have your arm hacked off by a sword-wielding psycho than getting shot.

<cue cheesy ad music>
The more you know!

[shudder] Kaylee, that chick is just too wierd. Each to his own.:)

two, have you ever walked down the aisle at a video rental joint? I did last weekend when I had to rent a movie for boxing club.

All of Hollywood is armed!!! (But poorly trained).:D

When I go watch Tomb Raider, I don't go to watch the movie, I go to watch Lara!! My gf likes her more than I do.. She oozes womenhood to no extent...

ET..

When I see people grabbing a gun improperly, handling a gun improperly, I think Hollywood is doing it on purpose, just to give gun owners a bad image.. :barf:

If you think you are tough without a gun, then do the Michelle Yeoh thing..

But a woman with a gun is much sexier... (Insert Runt and Kaylee here)

My gf wanted a lever action after seeing Lara riding through the woods doing target practice..

Waitasec...

So it's irresponsible and anti-gun of Hollywood to make movies with gunplay because it glorifies violence and the misuse of firearms, but then again it's irresponsible and anti-gun of them to make kung-fu movies that don't predominantly feature gunplay.

Kill Bill does have gun violence, ya know. And comparing it to the "Charlies Angels" dreck is unfair on several levels, even if you don't dig wierdly disjointed Tarantion homage flicks.

Watch "The Rundown". A key point that the Rock's character makes throughout the movie is that he doesn't use guns, because bad things happen when he does.

***spoilers***

Of course, to save someone, he ends up dual-weilding 12ga shotguns, but only after an intense moment of self-reflection/situation assessment/coming-to-terms.

The Rundown was a fun movie, with the heartwarming moral that "sometimes you need guns."

And a really nice use of the 1911 magazine. :D

Anti-gun folks are some of the most violent and dangerous people I know.Ain't that the truth. You can usually tag 'hypocritical' on there without too much trouble too.

Drew Barrymore <ptooey!> :barf:

If there was an NRA march and a Greenpeace march on the same day, I know where the violence would come from.

Most gun owners know the responsibility of owning a gun, and so most of them walk away from any and all non-life threatening situations. Tree hugging anti's usually are the ones that start things..

spaceman,

I'll consult my gf about "proof" ;)

All three of those movies included gun fights.

Hollywood is downplaying guns because gun fights are boring in movies. Notice the Matrix-- guns, lots of guns, right? But the cool scenes are the fighting.

And everyone in Hollywood these days is following the Matrix's lead-- so while there are guns, they are working extra hard on their hong kong kung fu action.

Especially Quentin. Swords made so much more sense for Kill Bill Vol. 1 than guns... and it worked great.

Note that the rest of the killings in that movie were gun or other non-sword killings... I bet volume two is not going to have as much swordplay (Though the main character being a swordswoman is part of the reason.)

A woman with a gun is a lot less novel and unusual than Uma Thurman with a sword!

No political agenda is needed.
