Sunday I shot my first competition ever and it was also a qualifier.(IDPA)
I shot in the CDP division.Im mostly a revolver guy but I bought a 1911 about 6 weeks ago and deceided to give it a try. What a rush,a little different than shooting paper in the back yard with the wife.Im not a nervous type guy but when I walked up to the line my heart was pumping and my hands were shaking. All I could think of was make a safe draw and dont get disqualified.
Pretty much blew the first stage but settled down (abit) for 2&3.Got home the wife asked how I did and I told her not well, I need a lot of work.
Got to work this mornning and the scores were posted and some how I made marksman. This was my first competition, but not the last.
Bob.

Hey!

Great job! Now you're hooked! :-)

A little practice at the basics will go a long way. Just doing a bunch of draw & dry-fire drills at home in the evenings will probably make Stage 1 go a lot smoother for you.

Good luck!

Also practice your tactical reloads and empty gun reloads. I have found that sidewalk chalk on a basement wall makes a great way to create scenarios to practice. (If you can)
Welcome to the fun! I joined last year in September and have had a blast since. Much more fun than CAS. I shot the classifier and made Sharpshooter. Next year I hope to make expert and then Master. Have fun and don't be afraid to ask questions.

Not mentioned yet: Practice your malfunction clearing.

All guns malfunction. If you're unprepared for it, it can cost you DEARLY.

Doesn't go bang? Hit the bottom of the magazine, rack the slide

Still not clear? Lock the slide to the rear, pull the magazine out (this should let the train wreck fall out), work the action if necessary, reload, continue.
