A couple of months ago I got my first batch of corncob to clean some 45acp cases and try out the new machine. Works great, but now the corn cob is drying out... What do you all use to revive it? Or is it a throwaway and get some more?

Corncob is 75 cents a pound at my local chain pet store. I mainly use it to clean lube off of ammo after loading with a tablespoon or two of kerosene on top of the cob in my tumbler.

When it no longer does the job replace it.

To clean stained brass use Walnut hulls available at the same place for the same price of find a wholesaler of those materials. For Walnut I use a tablespoon or two of paint thinner on the walnit in my tumbler.

Makers and promoters of any other additives laugh all the way to the bank.

Put in a little bit of liquid car wax. A capful or 2. That will do it plus it will make your brass shine like new.

I just tried this, and it works wonderfully.

I went to PetSmart and picked up a 10lb bag of walnut hull (its used for the linings of bird cages) for about 8 bucks, they also had 5lb bags for 5 bucks and 25lb bags for 15 bucks.

Then I went to Target and got some NuFinish car polish, 20oz for less than 3 bucks!

My brass has never been so clean or shiny:D!!

I was using Dillon corncob and dillon rapid polish! Never again! I have my new formula!!

Hope you like it!:D:D

Drying out? So what. It cleans by rubbing the oxidization and other stains off the brass by friction. Anything added to the media is just polish and is really not necessary.

I'm off to PetsMart for some Walnut...and I have some liquid wax from that truck polishing job I was going to do a couple of years ago...someday. This is a better use for it anyway.

Many thanks for the advice...

MIneral oil is supposed to work great, too. I like Mechanix Orange; it shines 'em up like they're goin' to church.

You sure that's not mineral spitits, instead of "mineral oil"?

I use the petstore walnut, but find the petstore corn cob to be too coarse for cleaning brass.

I use NUfinish car polish; just make sure that whatever you get doesn't contain ammonia.

I get best results and value using corncob case-cleaning media and Dillon Rapid-Polish.
