What's the best/longest-lasting CLP (Clean,Lubricate,Protect), or oil or whatever, that I can use on some of my beloved firearms which w/ be stored away. I bought a P-38 a few yrs. ago from German Sales Productions in Fla., no more, owner supposedly jailed & wife committed suicide, but that's another story, and anyhow, whatever they coated it w/ prior to shipment, remains, I believe, to this day. Or, at least, up until the pt. I last checked on it awhile back. This is what I need, a product I can trust. Thanks for your kind/invaluable assistance!

If you are storing them for a long time (years) cosmoline would be the king of the hill.

For rust prevention, CLP Breakfree is always at or very near the top in corrosion resistance.
As long as you keep a thin coat on the metal, it won't rust under normal circumstances.
For the absolute top protection for long term storage, slathering on a thick coat of grease is no longer the preferred storage method.
Now days, the military and industry use vapor barrier paper and special plastic bags.
The paper gives off a vapor that totally prevents rust for at least 10 years.
Since there is no thick layer of grease, you can open the bag and use the gun immediately, which is why the military use it.
Simply wipe the metal with a thin coat of CLP Breakfree to neutralize fingerprints, wrap in a couple of sheets of the paper, and seal in the special plastic gag.
Note: DO NOT store in ordinary plastic. Standard plastic bags will pass moisture and allow the vapor to escape.

Here is a test Brownell's did:

Different test parameters are going to give different rankings. Some products excel because they "cling" when the test involves a water spray or rain. So if you aren't leaving your gun on the deck of your fishing boat or outside on a picnic table, you may need something less agressive yet more user-friendly (like RIG vs. CLP).
If you search around google a while you can find various corrosion tests done by gun Magazines, blogs, etc. over the last few years and gorge yourself on comparisons.

Look for Breakfree Collector for long term storage. Last years longer than CLP. Does not need to be removed before using gun.

Check out Ezzox. It dries on your gun leaving a protective film (that also acts as a lubricant)

I have several pistols. I have some that are seldom used and can be stored for months without being fired. On my last range trip I took a 1911 that had been in a gun rug for about 6-8 months. I wanted to know if it would be reliable without lube. So I just put a magazine (also loaded for 6-8 months stored with the pistol) and fired away. Flawless operation until I got tired of shooting. I use Rem Oil and a synthetic pistol grease on the rails with all my pistols. This combination has always worked well and storage time seems to have little or no effect. I've done this test several times. I'm a believer in Rem Oil and have no idea why others hate it so. The grease won't evaporate either. The Teflon in Rem Oil, in my experience, may help with galling on stainless also. I try to put my pistols away in such a condition that all I need to do is insert a magazine.
