+1, Rock Island 1911, order through Sarco. w/transfer you'll be just over $400.00.

Rock Island GI is about $325+$15ship+ your FFL's transfer fee. If you have an FFL that will transfer for $10, you would be under $350.

I got the RIA Tactical. It was $395+$15ship+$20 my FFL = $430. IMHO, well worth it over the GI for upgrades that would cost you way more to add on later.

At that price point, Rock Island is your best bet.

Have you thought about buying used? A used Rock Island or Norinco might be found for under $350.

Yes, +1 on the Norinco if you can find one. I have not owned a RIA, but the ones I have seen and shot seem like a nice entry point for a 1911. Note. I said entry point...

No, They where crap when they where new, they are most likely crap now. I apologize to the 3 or 4 people out there that have one that works.

Just above the $400 mark, is the Firestorm 1911 .45 ACP~! A very nice
pistol, with a good trigger for the money ($432 ) OTD. A friend bought
one, and I am highly impressed~! ;) :D

A used Rock Island or Norinco might be found for under $350.

Used Norinco prices seem to be about $450 these days pretty consistently on forum and Gunbroker. I think you can still get them cheaper new in Canada, but the OP is in PA. More than $350, but I believe still the best value under $500 out there, even if 15 years old at this point (ban started in '94 I think). I carried mine yesterday. It was $225 in '93 as I recall.

Damn, that is pushing it to the point where the question is almost a joke!

I recommend you save your money for 6 months and bump up to a Sprinfield or a used Colt.

You will not find Norks for $350... They are great base guns and they are mainly bought for this purpose.

Llama is not a real 1911. I believe that the Firestorm is the same. Not 100% compatibility of parts.

An RIA is not $310 anymore... In fact most people are not even taking back orders right now. $359 at centerfire but not in stock

Nevermind on the American Classic, I was thinking of the dealer cost not retail. Looks like retail for it is about $480.

Just got back from the range where I was shooting a Colt and my Norinco.
I paid $250 just a few months ago, in a pawnshop/gunstore. They are still to be found if you look.
Local on-line web site had one listed for $300 a month ago, I was too late.

I do agree that I would most likey wait a little longer and try to get up to the $500 range. All kinds of stuff pops up starting there.

In the mean time do some research on the good brands / deal and be ready if one pops up.

Honestly, I would suggest saving your shekels until you could buy something a little more up-scale.......

I wouldn't recommend a 1911 for under $350. Maybe a used Glock but not a 1911.

No on Llama, No on Firestorm--Parts aren't interchangeable not that well made either. For the money you can't beat RIA. Just a hair over $350 and not bad shooters. You can't really build one yourself cheaper.

OK, you guys keep up with the Llama bash.
Drives the price down for the rest of us.

My Llama 1911s have a lot of Wilson and colt parts mixed in. They work fine - the parts and the gun. You don't find many Llamas under $400 these days unless they are real beaters.

I have other 1911s - Sig, SA, Colt. I appreciate the Llamas for what they are, which is the RIA of their day.
