Hi folks, thanks for listening.
I have a Remington 1100 12 Gauge , 2 3/4" chamber, 21" smoothbore remchoke slug barrel with rifle sights.
I bought this barrel to set this shotgun up as a coyote hunting rig, which requires a tight pattern out to 50 yards.
I am hunting in Oklahoma and the largest legal shot we can use is BB. I have tried patterning this gun at 45 yards with Federal WingShok 2 3/4" 1 1/2 oz copperplated magnum lead BB. (1315 fps P156BB).
I have been getting 4-6 hits on a paper plate @ 45 yds using full Remchoke, xtra full turkey remchoke, Carlson's Dead Coyote choke (.665?), and a Primos TKY Tight Wad (.660). The overall patterns are generally spread out 3 1/2'- 4' with varying degrees of consistency. I'd like to get 10-12 (or more) hits on a paper plate at that range.
What can you guys tell me about the forcing cone on a 21" smoothbore remington factory barrel? Is the FC "different" because it's a smoothbore slug barrel?
I'm leaning towards lenghthening the FC in an attempt to improve my results.

I'm no expert, but try a regular full choke and see if that helps. Sometimes larger pellets and tight chokes lead to blown patterns

HB offers good advice. I have found this true also, especially with steel and Hevi-shot. Have you patterned it on a large pattern board to make sure it is shooting to point of aim? I know you said 3.5 - 4 ft. around the paper plate. The other drawback I see is that it is only a 2 3/4" load, you are not working with a large pellet count.

Lengthening a forcing cone is almost certain to improve patterns with larger shot like buckshot. I don't know how well it will influence patterns with medium sized shot.

I'd try a more open choke tube before I started changing the internal barrel geometry, if I were you. Especially if you're using Federal loads with FliteControl wads.
