here on the east coast we dont get alot of new firearms shipped to our dealers too quickly but a new gunshop opened over the weekend and they have a second shop in Las Vegas so he shipped a good portion of his inventory here and he has alot of nice stuff including the LCR ive been looking for i finaly got to hold one and man is it light compaired to everything else i own (mind you i dont have a scandium j fram smith) and he had a few snap caps to let me see the trigger pull
i must say its alot nicer than the taurus i have been carrying (please no boos its all i could afford at the time)
i think ill go ahead and pic it up this weekend as long as my wallet is willing to part with the 480 hes asking
btw anyone from Delaware need to go down Rt24 towards longneck and visit this shop the people were nicer than any shop ive been to in this state
the shops sign isnt up yet all it says is guns and ammo but the people there were EXTREMELY helpful and acted as if they wanted your business unlike every other shop here

When you go to shoot it tell me if you got past 10 rounds due to the pain from the recoil in those weigh-nothing things ;)

I live in Delaware, nominally speaking. What's this new place called, and what's the address?

$480?
No thanks. Not when I can walk in and buy a new 642 for $440 at Cabela's, and use the money towards some really nice grips for it if I want to (unavailable for the LCR).
If I were you, I'd wait a few months and get one for $400.
People rave about the LCR trigger, and it might well be nice, but the 642 trigger is consistent, light and smooth enough to keep 'em on target at 25 yards, no problem. It's not like these are target guns.:)
I'm not saying which one is better. I don't know. I am saying I don't feel the need to pay a 20% price premium to be the first one on the block with a plastic revolver, when the competition from S&W, Taurus, et al. is cheaper, and has long track records.

Wait a few months vs 80 bucks? Thats not that much...

I have seen them popping up here, but only the ones with the CT laser grips for about $585. I think the price is still too high for me to be willing to be their beta tester. I did handle one though... awesome. I will certainly be getting one eventually.

What's the hurry?
There have been lightweight pocket revolvers on the market for a VERY long time. If you need one, you can get one. Chances are, ifyou need one, you already have one.
These are not exactly fun toys.
Not sure why I'd WANT to rush out and get one of these, specifically.
the ones with the CT laser grips for about $585
That is a very competitive price, compared to other revolvers in the market niche, if you want the CT grips. A MUCH better value than $480 for the basic model.

You are right... it puts the gun itself in the $400 range as the CT's are about $180-$200 upgrade... the problem is that I hate lasers on a pistol. I can't figure spending any extra $ on a gun equipped with one.

Me neither. I can hit a human-sized target plenty fast with a standard 642 at distances far beyond what any jury would likely consider "self-defense."
If I throw money at a J-frame, it'll be to put these on it: :)

Nobody makes anything like that for the LCR yet, and I doubt they will.

I handled one today and it felt...well...cheap. Pretty nice trigger, but it felt like a toy to me. And, it rattled. I'll keep my 642s and my 442s.

I remember feeling this way when I picked up a Glock for the first time. I think the initial feeling of a 13 oz revolver is hard to swallow at first. But I think the gun has good potential.

I've shot a Smith 11 oz. revolver. Hurt like hell with .357s after a few cylinders. But it didn't feel like a toy.

Beagle i believe its centerfire arms but the sign on the building only says guns and ammo as of right now
its on rt 24 around oak orchard accross from the royal farms
maybe i am getting a bit ahead of myself but i am still gonna take the plunge if i can
i dont want to try and hunt down a smith when the LCR that i want is sitting right there i can handle recoil by the truck load so that wont bother me
you guys have to understand that alot of the shops here dont stock much of anything EVER its not like used smiths hit the market here and new ones are hard to find too unless i drive well out of my way or have one shipped new
shops here fall into two catagories
1.hunting shops that treat you like home defense is the absolute most rediculous reason to own a firearm
2.surplus shops that have used rifles and a very limited selection of handguns that are usualy junk

$480? Ouch! I purchased one the other day NIB for $395 OTD. A gun like the LCR is a tool for me and I do not worry about whether it looks pretty with fancy grips and the like. That may be important for others, it is not for me. That said I do not find the looks of the LCR objectionable.
What is important for me is function. The LCR felt good in my hand. I really liked the trigger pull on the LCR. It felt much better than the other DA revolvers I have shot. I hope to get to the range with it and an air lite smith (the one I'll be taking is a .357 but should allow some direct comparison) to see how they shoot side by side. The recoil of the light weight .357 doesn't bother me but I am in the habit of shooting rather hot hand loads out of a SP101. Factory loads in the air lite smith were pleasant in comparison. I do not worry much about the recoil of 38 special LCR.
I am hoping to get out and shoot it along with some other revolvers. If life doesn't get in the way of those plans I'll perhaps take some pics and write a range report. I know there will be comments about ruger recalls etc. Time will tell. Its not like $395 is a lot of money for a gun or anything and its not like this is my only gun. I was okay rolling the dice on it based on handling it in the shop and my past experiences with Ruger revolvers. I am excited to see if it shoots well. I wouldn't have payed more for one than a smith, not at this point. The SW are much more proven. If the LCR proves its self reliable and durable it may eclipse the smith in my mind. It already has it beat in feel (to me at least).

I have a scandium S&W 340. It hurts like no other after 10 rounds of .357, but if you use .38 special +P+ than it does not hurt as much.

ok so i was a day later than i figured but i picked it up this afternoon
im very pleased with its fit and finish its still not beautiful but its a working model not a showpiece
ill see how it shoots tomorrow
btw Beagle the shop is called Center Mass Firearms and is located in the Oak Orchard Post Plaza Shopping Center on Rt24
and again i have to comment on the shopkeepers
Leon Novak is one nice guy and his son who is helping him run the new location are both excellent people to deal with

took it out today and shot a box of 50 through it the recoil is suprisingly not as bad as many would think
the trigger is much better than im used to i found myself pulling the gun to the right a bit because its so smooth and im used to having to pull alot more on other revolvers
im very happy with my purchase

A friend and I were looking at one at a gun show dealer Saturday... $699! My local pusher has had them for a while - $429. Go figure. Our reaction was simple... a 642, or 442 if that black is what you like, would seem like such a step up in everything - and $459-$479 at the pusher's - a bargain. Sorry - with their last two small semi's track record, a new Ruger handgun should be given a wide berth until you are sure the 'bugs' are out of it. Me, I cleaned house here of my Rugers - fewer revolvers here now - all but one, a bp 'Old Army' c&b, are S&W. YMMV. Best of luck with the new Ruger, of course.
