What's the alleged function of the piston on the Brenneke 12ga Super Sabot?
Does it absorb recoil?
Does it force expansion?
Does it jettison that aluminum tip?
I dunno.
Thanks,

If I'm thinking about the same slug you are, the piston is supposed to drive back into the collar and expand it on impact.

Here's the factory pics of the slug:
in the top 2 we see the slug in its sabot and just after teh wad is the base of the slug, then a darkened/grooved area, then the rest of the brass part of the slug- with the very tip of the aluminum tip showing.

Then in the 3rd picture is the fired slug, with the darkened/grooved area gone- apparently shoved into the brass sleeve, and the aluminum tip now extending outwards (more foward).

4th is the recovered slug, with expanded brass jacket piston area still hidden in the base, and aluminum tip gone.

So it looks like the piston is just to force the tip foward for penetration. maybe?
or is it to absorb recoil like a fancy brass wad?

Curiouser and curiouser???
