Bullet weight versus Powder

Hi All,
I was sitting in traffic today on my way to a job and I thought about the following....
A buddy of mine had a 200Gr LSWC mold he says I can have....
Great...I can use that for loading some .45acp ammo....now is the rub...
Can I use this for double duty for .45 Colt....??
The 45 colt rounds I have been loading are round LSWC 250 gr over alliant 2400 and CCI large pistol primers in my ruger vaquero. But I am running low on bullets
How does one go about adjusting bullet weight to powder ratio's without fancy lab equipment.
I am sure it is not linear, but is it reasonable to take the average weight differential of the bullets...250 down to 200 and drop the powder load based on the weight difference percentage????
This is PURELY for target shooting....
Thoughts???

Got load books? ;)
I checked Alliant online and did not see any loads for 2400 with the 200 Gr lead bullet. I would think a faster powder would be better for "target loads", but see no reason why you could not use 2400. Start with your 250 Gr load and work up carefully, or if you want similar velocities, you will need to drop the charge.

i WOULD NOT advise guestimating powder weight to bullet weight ratios......you need a RELOADING MANUAL! lots of free load info on manufactures online sites and free pamphlets in gun shops.
for a ref lee's manual states
---2400---
200g lead 45acp---(no loads with 2400 hope you have another powder:o)
250g lead 45 colt----(no loads with 2400 hope you have another powder:cuss:)
200g 45 colt----(no loads with 2400 hope you have another powder:banghead:)

this is why i want another manual

you can use the 200g to answer your question, just a different powder would be much more suitable

Unique is better suited for target loads with lead bullets in .45 Colt, whatever the weight. Plenty of info in load books for that combo.

I hear ya....I have the lee manual and checked alliant etc...
Just trying to maximize what I happen to have on hand....and not trying to re-invent the wheel....

+1
A load of 2400 that would burn clean would push a 200 lead SWC into low earth orbit velocity.
Use Unique, Trail Boss, Clays, 700X, Titegroup, Red Dot, Green Dot, WW231, or a host of other faster powders that will burn at the pressure levels you need to get 900 FPS or so.
The other problem you will run into is a 200 will not shoot to POA with a fixed sight .45 Colt revolver.
If you had a Blackhawk with adjustable sights, you would be good.
