Crimped pockets on 45 brass?

My neighbor was sizing/depriming some Federal .45 ACP brass the other day. On several of the cases the "walls" of the primer stayed in the primer pocket while the surface that is struck by the firing pin broke out. He thinks the brass was crimped. The headstamp is F, which I think is Federal. Has anyone comeacross any 45 AP brass that had crimped primers? I sorta think there may have been a problem with the primers and not a crimp issue.

Some .45 ACP Lead-Free Green has crimped primers.
They also may use Sm Pistol primers instead of Lg Pistol primers.

Some GI .45 ACP, as used in sub machineguns have crimped primers.

BTW: The center very likely did not break out.
He is looking at the remaining ring crimp.

Could be any number of manufacturers including, Frankford Arsenal but I don't think it's Federal. Have a look, HERE (http://cartridgecollectors.org/headstampcodes_bottom.htm#F).

The center is broken out for sure. We lookd at then thru a large maginifying glass, the edge of the "ring" was jagged and rough. Made me think the primers had a problem.

Well, in that case, they are toast!

Toss them.

Federal did contract runs for the US gov. in '96, '97, '98. I got a lot of the brass. It all had crimped primers. Dillon pocket swage to the rescue.

I've picked up a good bit of old GI .45 cases that had crimped primers. Headstamps were RA, FA, WCC, etc plus the year (RA 54, for example). Good brass, just use the same primer pocket swager you use for .308 military rifle brass.

Was'nt all that stuff marked, "FC" with the year on it...?

Even if they were crimped..........Shouldn't they when pop out clean during decapping/sizing?

I bought 1000 used 45 ACP Brass from Dillon 70% were crimped. Had no problem decapping.

D: yes it was marked FC and the year. I managed to get my hands on 10 boxes of it . I still have 2 boxes unfired, has the contract # on the box.

You'd think so. Might look close for any signs of corrosion especially if, this stuff is pretty old. RC's advise may be the safe bet.

I didn't mean to toss them all.

Just the ones with broken primers you can't get out.
