Man, she knows me well...

(We don't really have an "ammo" section, so I thought reloading might be the closest thing...)
Ok, so I started casually collecting single rounds of different calibers for a shadow box/display case. Knowing that it was something I'd love, my wife had a display case built for me by a friend of the family who makes custom cabinets. It's all cedar, and I just had to share:

Detail of knob:

So, my question is... Where can I get some individual rounds to add to the display without breaking the bank?
Here's what I have so far (top to bottom, left to right):
.17 HMR
.22 WMR
.22 LR (SS)
.22 LR
.22 Long
.22 Short
-----
.44 Mag
.45 LC
.357 Mag
.38 Spl.
.45 ACP
.38 S&W
.40 S&W
.9mm Luger
9x18 Makarov
.380
-----
12 ga Buckshot
(3) 12 ga paper
12 ga Aguila Short
16 ga
20 ga
-----
.30-06
6.5x55 Swede
6.5x55 Swede (Practice)
7.62x54r
.308
.30-30
.223
7.62x39
.30 carbine
The last piece in the case was a piece of brass from grandpa's funeral (RIP).

Very nice. If I had something you needed, I would send it to you. I have some very old .38 S&W, but I see you have one in that caliber.

You should tell that friend to make some more of those, its beautiful. The 20mm circe 1942 handle is the icing on the cake.

Try yard sales, and ask. Everyone always has a few loose rounds in a drawer.

does the cartridge have to be ready to fire (ie, powder and primer), or is a bullet in a case sufficient?
if you just want a bullet in a case, you can probably get whatever you want by just asking in this forum. if you need a ready to fire case, you're gonna have to hit up locals at your nearest friendly gun range...

Shipping regs make sending live ammo one at a time cost prohibitive.

I've been hitting up the shooters at my Conservation Club. The trustee who comes around to check IDs said he had few oddball rounds he'd throw in his truck and give me next time I'm around. Said he had a couple pinfire rounds he'd give up. :)
I'd be fine with the appearance of a live round, ie. no powder or primer.

I have a couple of brass casings from my father's funeral. We buried him in Arlington last year and I kept the brass from the 21 gun salute his Marine Corps honor guard fired at the end of his service.
I've been trying to think of a way to display them. Any ideas?

I have to do some reloading this weekend and owe someone else some of these as well so I will make you one if you want it. What am I talking about? 9mm Winchester Magnum of course! It is a 9x29mm used in my AMT AutoMag III. Interested?

That looks great! I collect as well, but mostly have brass, that I find at the range. I find quite a few calibers I have never heard of, when I really look!

My brother in law took the brass, had it polished, and had grandpa's name and date of birth - date of death engraved on them, then had them clear coated and distributed to the family. They look nice pretty much anywhere they're displayed. Before this it was in my wife's glass curio cabinet.
(I'll be contacting a couple of you re: dummy bullets. Thanks to everyone!)

Odnar,
Barnes sells a .50 BMG dummy round with their logo engraved in the brass that is pretty neat. http://www.barnesbullets.com/products/other-merchandise/50-bmg-dummy-round/

Green bullet, Industrial strength canelures around the case, no primer or powder. It's not ammo, so restrictions don't apply.

Haven't received them yet, but I'll be sure to take pics and update this thread when I get them. I have a few more on the way, and I expect to pick up quite a few from some old friends of mine this weekend.
Edit: It seems I spoke too soon. Your package got here yesterday, I just forgot to check the mail. I'll take pictures and get them up in a bit. Thanks!
