I was browsing this site (http://www.ken-drake.com/) and found this (http://www.ken-drake.com/grenoble_target_rifle.htm):

Striking how modern that stock looks in comparison with the stuff we can buy today, isn't it?

The description is as follows:
A rare example of a specialized French target rifle by Larimer, circa 1680 to 1700, made and used in Grenoble, France. Two examples are illustrated in "Guns and Rifles of the World" by Howard Blackmore, items 216 and 217. Very unusual form used exclusively in that area. Fine burlwood stock with a raised and elaborately carved intertwined snake on the fore end, used as a palm rest. Minor worm holes and a replaced fore end tip. Overall length 45 inches. 31 1/2 inch .70 caliber rifled octagonal barrel with an elaborately turned muzzle with three moldings. Complicated peep sights on breech and muzzle. CB and Star proofs. Iron mounts, barrel and lock have a dark patina. Removable lock signed "Larimer". Double set triggers. Good mechanical condition. An extremely rare example of a specialized French target rifle.

Price $4750 (US)

wow. I could spend a whole lot of time at that site. I would never be a good arms merchant cause I can never give one up.
