Hey guys, I just got the Ruger LCR and it is beatiful! Anyways, I was wondering about this box of ammo I bought for it. Its Sellier & Bellot Soft Point 158 gr. It only cost 19.99, so I figured it is just range ammo, but I didn't notice the Soft Point til I got home. Should I use wadcutters/fmj for range and use this SP stuff for defense? Thanks for your help fellas!

SP bullets won't expand well especially with the velocities associates with a short barrel. JSP bullets will expand after they penetrate deeply but only if pushed hard. I would say use them for the range unless you can't find anything else for carry ammo.
BTW, if you're looking for good carry ammo that's not totally off the wall priced take a look at the .38 Special +P ammo (http://www.doubletapammo.com/php/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_57&products_id=215) offered by DoubleTap. Up until recently the box of 50 was $28.95 but now it's $34.95. Considering most of the SD ammo out there is almost that much for 20 rounds it's still not that bad. They use a Speer Gold Dot bullet in their ammo.

Dear ZK,
Welcome to revolvers! With prices like they are, you've gotta start reloading!

for HD/SD I have Double Tap .38 Special +P
It's 125 gr. Speer Gold Dots @ 1135 fps. so in
my 3" Model 60 it's probably less than 1120fps
(speed of sound). I checked recently and now it
seems DOuble Tap just sez the load has Bonded JHPs.
still the same velocity it should do the job.
There's also the Rem LSWC 158 gr. "FBI Load" about
875 fPS. - controllable in snubs.
