That is exactly what I went through other than I settled for the dovetail mounts and I had to bed the rifle before it realy shined. After that everything in there was dead on.

That long action retaining screw seems to a a common issue w/ the Marlin.

Several fellows I know have had to reduce them about 3 threads like the article said. Oh well, @ least the screw isn't short 3 threads! :eek:
