What are the advantages to having windowed magpul pmag magazines over the non-windowed version? I can get non-windowed pmags for $15, and windowed pmags for $25. Is it worth it to spend the extra cash?

It's a personal preference. Most mags don't have a window anyways, so I don't see the big deal.

Personal preference, but look around. I bought my windowed ones for $17.95. The windowless were $14.95.

Once the round count is 10 or less the window really does not give you any indication of when the mag is about to go empty. What is needed is a Magpul magazine with a bluetooth interface to a red dot sight that displays round count in the viewfinder. Nice magazines any way you slice it. Need 50 and 100 round P-mags.

If they're a 2 or 3 dollar difference like they used to be then i'd say they might be worth it just to try out but at $10 more i'd say no way. I'd get the windowless since they're close to half the price so you can get more mags.

Since they're only good for telling you that you have 10 or less rounds left i've never bothered to pay the extra for them.

$10 more for a little window? I wouldn't pay it.

I've always found it pretty easy to tell if an AR mag is full, half-full, or empty just by picking it up.

Both the weight & balance point is enough to tell the differance.

How important is it to know your exact round count remaining? and if it IS so critically important, are you gonna have/take the time to get a visual inventory?
you can just load 2 tracers in the bottom and another at #10.

Not true. The spring has a red mark on it that you can see at the top of the window when its empty, in the middle with 10 rounds remaining and at the bottom with 20 rounds remaining.

Is it worth $10 extra? Not to me, but then again I only paid an extra $3 for mine.

That explains it, I'm pretty much red-green colorblind, especially with red in bad light.

Coming soon, FWIW. CAA is upping the ante.

You can also find vids of these in action on YouTube.

Thanks for the suggestions. These mags are hard to find. I saw them at an atlanta gun show selling for $27, or 2 for $50 for the windowed version. I saw the non windowed for $15 at a military store. I bought one for $27 at the show and I feel like I got ripped off. I guess I'll wait till I find the windowed ones for under $20.

For when I really need to know how many rounds I have left in a magazine I load it with three tracers and then one tracer every 5 rounds after (example: rounds #'s 8, 13, 18, 23, and 28).

And I only load with 28 rounds, so my first round is to put me on target.

Around here the windowed and non-windowed are going for the same price. Picked both up for $15 each...

i found the best deal at brownells. the regular for 12.95 IIRC and the window ones for 2-3$ more. i am personally just fine with the non windowed models, i say save the money, get enough and you will save enough to buy another.
