Hi guys

Some of you might enjoy this exercise. In madikwe game reserve, all field guides have to pass a shooting evaluation before they are allowed to work in the reserve.

This involves two exercises:

1: In your own time - fire 4 shots at a target, 12.5cm in diameter, in the off-hand position, at a distance of 30 meters. All 4 shots need to be in the target.

2: You have 3 targets, 1 at 30 meters, 1 at 20 meters and 1 at 10 meters. 12.5cm targets,

You start with your rifle by your side in the safe/carry position (no round in the chamber)|On the "go" command, you chamber a round, fire at 30m, rechamber, fire at 20m, rechamber, fire at 10m, rechamber and end aiming at the 10meter target.

You have 15 seconds to hit each target, from the word go to when you have rechamberd and aiming at the 10meter (only use 3 rounds for the exercise, dont chamber a round for the final load and aim at the 10m, too easy to forget that youre loaded).

Sounds easy hey, give it a try but not with your little .22 These exercises (for us) have to be done with our guiding rifles ie.375h&h, 458winmag, 458 lotts, 416rigby etc. etc.

Time to beat : 5.92 seconds:D

You can also do a simulated charge. Make a sled with a 12,5cm target. Place it at 30 meters and attach a 40meter piece of rope. Get a fit fast friend to pull it. he runs away from you pulling the target towards you. Start in the carry possition, shout go and see how many shots you can get off before the target attacks you.

Enjoy but be safe.

Got charged by a hog, once, after blood trailing it for 350 yards in thick cover. Managed a head shot at very close range with my .357 magnum 4" handgun. Got the ol' adrenalin up, can tell ya that! I can only imagine what a lion or buffalo charge would be like. :what: You guys have some nasty critters over there. I'm amazed that Homo Sapiens survived, let alone populated the planet. LOL Can you imagine a charge when all you have is a stick with a sharp rock on the end?
