Poll Question: More or Less Personal Ammo Supply Since Obama Election?

PDA

Having never before been concerned about the availability of ammo, I was content prior to the Obama election with having just a few boxes of relevant ammo around for my immediate needs. With the current inability to walk in to the local shop and buy boxes of whatever I wanted to shoot that weekend, I find that I have worked harder to buy ammo and as a result my actual supply is more than its ever been. (Admittedly, my personal supply would still be considered woefully inadequate by most on this board.)

So, I'm curious, do the posters here have - in actual supply, not desires - more or less ammo supply than they did on the day Obama was elected last November?

Until the tragic boating accident yesterday, I had more.

Ammo... what ammo? I just have one horn full of black powder, one fist full of primers, and one fist full of 0.50 balls for my musket.

Since the 2A is dated, thats all I am allowed to have.

The problem now is that I cannot replace ammo at my current rate of usage. So either cut ammo use or hope supplies come back soon at normal costs.

About the same. I'm not hording, but I have what I need.

my ammo supply is about where it has always been, but my practicing had dropped substantially as I can no longer rotate in new stock for what I shoot..

I have more, but, it is going down. If I don't get more primers, it could be less soon.

More, but only because I'm trying to buy at the same rate as before but I get to the range less often.

It's less. I'm using it up, and not able to easily replace reloading components. Prolly down to about 30K rounds now.

Being that I got laid off shortly after the election my ammo supply was way down. Now I am working but still making up for past bills so that coupled with the lack of real available ammo means my ammo supply is basically 1 or 2 boxes for each. Which sucks. I dont even want to go to the range because then I wont be able to resupply.

I HAD about 5k of .22lr, but since then i have fired about 3k of it. I did replace some of that with components for 2k of .223, minus primers...

It's about the same--but I already had the makings for 30K in reloads, and about 5K of store-bought on hand. With the primers I do have, I figure I can make it another year--IOW, when supplies are available, at a 'normal' price.

Oops! I forgot to mention the 14K of reloaded handgun ammo on hand--

No change.

I have reloaded everything I shoot except .22RF for 45+ years, and already had more ammo then I will live long enough to shoot up.

I hope Obummer is not monitoring this site (yeah right). But I'm not worried as I also lost my entire gun collection and ammo in a canoeing accident! I was very sad.

More, but only because I have been picking up the odd tin can of milsurp lately- retirement and fixed income coming soon (I hope).

I have more weapons since November so now I have more ammo. I try to maintain a 1,000 rounds per gun. I have a tad bit over 15K rounds presently.

I'd sure like it to be more -- a lot more, in fact -- but it's a doggone difficult struggle to get a box or two ahead these days, given the dearth of ammo that's available. I can't speak for other regions of the country, but the supply in Oregon has been pitiful since shortly after Christmas, and it doesn't show any signs of getting any better. Each trip to the gun shop, or to WallyWorld, is only more discouraging.

Less I have had to curb shooting due to less ammo available.

I can speak for Oregon being tough.

There's only 2 places to buy where I live and from what proprietors are saying, the same guy keeps camping out and buying out entire shipments while us hard-working folk are at work.

They've since imposed per-customer limit, but going in at lunch on freight days, I'm still lucky to get a box of 50 every 3 weeks or so

Since I'm an instructor I normally buy pistol ammo by the case anyway both for my own practice and to supply my students.

I did an quick inventory a couple weeks ago and realized I had almost 2,000 rounds of 9mm just in my car.

That's when I decided that I wasn't worried about the current ammo drought. I have bought ammo at WM when I've seen it available, but haven't really worried about it when I couldn't get any.

So far, what I've brought in has been less then what I've had time to shoot or what I've needed to supply to my students, so I'm actually up from how much ammo I had, say, in November.

About the same. Had quite a bit on hand and more than a few reloading supplies. Lately I am shooting less and just trying to round out my reloading supplies here and there in case the shortage goes on longer than we anticipate.

I have always had a lot. I have even more now, but it was simply a natural progression, rather than a reaction to the election.

I'm noticing a trend of a lot of boating mishaps where guns and ammo disappear into the depths . . . :scrutiny: Man, you guys need to start attaching life vest to your ammo. :D

Take that, Big Brother!

About the same.

However, I never thought about reloading certain calibers like .45acp, 9mm, or .223 until now. I don't know how much reloading of those cartridges I'll do, but I'd like to have the components and dies on hand so that I can reload them if the moonbats ever make good on their promises. I am now an owner of .45acp dies and components, and I've got my eye out for the .223 setup.

Well I feel set for a storm; I'm 14 and I have 5 or 6k of .22lr for my 10/22 and my Rogue Chipmunk... Plus my uncles endless supply of other calibers... where does he hide it pandoras box?

I've bought only a little bit more ammo lately, and also traded some work with a friend of mine who bought me some reloading components in exchange too. I don't want to go crazy, can't afford it anyway, but judging from the actions vs. words scenario with our politicians, plus the arrogance and body language of our fearless leader (whatever), I think that we had better get our heads out of the sand on this one. It may not happen this year, but the times are changing rapidly, and it's a bit concerning. If you don't believe me, just ask a veteran cop. Alot of them are VERY concerned. I think maybe if even half of the hoarding buyers backed off a bit, it would get better for alot of us. It pisses me off to not be able to buy a brick of .22LR in my town. That's really aggravating not being able to go practice right now.

I have about the same amount. I still have 1500 LPP, 3500 SPP, 1000 LRP, 13 lbs of powder. When I hear people talk about "hoarding" by buying more than 100... or even 1000.... rounds of ammo, I find it laughable and insulting. They are completely ignorant of the realities of shooting on a regular basis.

Well, this unemployed thing continues to be a bear. All the free time in the world, and nothing much left over to spend durning that time. So, I have not been to the range much, which cuts down of stockpile use. Which is good, as there has not been much to restock with had that much been expended.

my little "stash" really has not changed much since our new "fearless leader" took office. partly because i can not afford it, and partly because you can not find any anyways.:banghead::cuss:

Same here, lower round count per outing. Even reloading less as it is tough to find components . . .

I used to get 50-100 rounds when I ran low, but I just picked up 1200 rounds in the past 2 weeks, and pick up reloading components when I can find them.

Hungry Seagull
May 22, 2009, 10:24 AM
I pick up ammo where I can get it.

I hold off wife who demands I spend a thousand dollars today just for ammo. Instead I told her for every 5 rounds she fires, I buy 20 more that day in one of the shops in the area or order online.

Guess what, our range time is going up alot soon.

With quality aimed fire, not just bangbangbang...

Oh yea, one other thing, I need to learn to find rabbit ammo. The slugs and triple ought will only smear rabbits all over the forest. Wife laughed when she realized that.

More, but only because I bought an new revolver in .357, Restocked my .22lr and found some great deals on .303 brit and 7.62x25.

I was well stocked before the election amd will be well stocked until they drag me out by my feet.

I can't hardly find some of my ammo because the store don't have it or the web site are all on back order. I go on the weekend looking for ammo but the store can't keep it long before it sells out. I order 500 round of 9mm Luger about 3 months ago and it is still on back order and I can't find 45 long colts no where.

More, simply because my gun inventory has increased. Rounds per weapon is about the same.

hexidismal
May 22, 2009, 11:03 AM
It's definitely less for me, and certainly not by choice. What VERY little shooting I've done has depleted my supply, and quite frankly I can't afford the ridiculous prices on what little ammo I can find ( that's if I can find any , which hasn't really been the case )

I've been basically forced to completely stop shooting now, which to me unfortunately means the antis are winning once and for all. See, some would say that Obamas presidency having been the catalyst for high sales of firearms and ammo is a good thing for the gun owner.. but I personally feel that those people that think that don't realize that the real agenda of antis in power ( the ones that matter ) is not so much to take guns away from everyone quite yet so much as it is to take guns away from those without money.

I don't buy or use much factory ammo with the exception of 17 and 22 RF ammo. However I have about doubled my bullet, powder, and primer inventory since last november and also purchased a SHTF 12 ga shottie also. :)

I added a couple semi auto rifles to the battery, and correspondent ammunition, cases of such, for them. I have steadily been reloading my own, but am shooting less, so my stocks are increasing (avaialble primers permitting......).
