If stupidity were painful: another pain survivor speaks

A letter to the editor from this morning's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Notice that he assumes that he and his ilk will thwart Darwin.

CONCEALED-CARRY LAW
Rage and guns a dangerous combination
Reading about the likelihood of a Wisconsin concealed-carry law being passed by our elected officials in Madison, I can't escape the vision of a history student in 3003 reading of the great gunfight at the Barker Road off-ramp on I-94.
I'm not fearful of ex-cons coming into my house with guns; I'm scared by the thought of the law-abiding John Doe whom I have just inadvertently cut off who may be carrying. I see his rage and the piece in his hand as he comes to "make things right." I see others stopping to help who also happen to be armed. Some of these law-abiders are half-lit, and some are half-wits, if not both, and they are just itching to appear macho.
I see the first shot fired, and what ensues is what I see the history students reading about in 3003. It will be called "The gunfight at the Barker Road ramp."

I believe people who think like that are afraid everyone will act as they would in a given situation.
Last summer a kid in a large piece of farm equipment turned right in front of my wife and I. We came within a couple of feet of being turned into hamburger. I was pissed to say the least. Turned around and went back, chewed the kids butt until he cried but not once did I think about killing him.

Oh, yeah, he should be worried about that, alrighty!
Just think of all the gunfights we get in traffic jams in every CCW state in the union! Y'all hear about 'em on the news every day, right?

I read that letter to the editor during my lunch break and my eyeballs nearly exploded.:banghead:
If I remember my psychology correctly, what he is doing is called projection. Because his emotion development has been stunted and he has poor control over his behavior, he expects that everyone else will act the same way he would if they were able to carry a gun. At the very least, he might be harmless if we assume that because he is antigun, he won't get in line to get a carry permit.

It always amazes me that carrying a gun “illegally” is an offense more easily dissuaded by law than is killing someone illegally.

Come on now, you know when The Man says "No! Bad kitty!" he means no! Of COURSE no one would think of going ahead and doing it then...especially if he recently said so.
I guess the stupid need to be frequently reprimanded to feel safe.

Thanks for the humor! It makes it a little easier to tolerate the blatherings of morons like Patrick Reposa.
and, I have decided to pass on my comtemplated purchase of a new Hummer. I 'm gonna wait for the civilian version of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle - much better for the rush hour commutes (I can't afford one of those new Assaultimas)

Then there are all the highway shootouts in places like Arizona and Montana where it has always been legal to carry a gun in a vehicle without a permit ....

Personally, I think this person has a point. I've seen numerous stories recently about 'road rage' incidents on the highways and Bi-Ways around where I live (Illinois). There have been shootouts on the highways more times than I care to mention. If it weren't for these 'CCW Illinois patrons' there wouldn't be so much crime and rage on our roadways.
When I cut off Average Joe Citizen, I have to worry that he is going to shoot me and do me bodily harm because he/she is a CCW.
If I travel into a bad neighborhood at night I worry about the safety of me and my family because of the people who CCW.
When I drive the streets I worry about the car next to me who has a CCW.
When the Chicago Bulls won 6 championships I was afraid of all the raining bullets, shot carelessly into the sky after the victories from CCW Illinoisans.
When the clock strikes 12 on New Years Eve, I worry about careless discharges into the night sky by CCW holders.
I'm so disgusted because the rights of the people in Illinois who CCW in Illinois are rarely infringed upon but yet, my rights can be trampled on by those who CCW.
Oh wait, it isn't legal for CCW in Illinois!

Deepdiver-
I'd recomend one of the new Strykers instead of a Bradley, at least until your local gangbangers upgrade to RPGs. Faster, quieter, smoother ride, plus tracks are so expensive to maintain if you drive them on pavement all the time.
And the remote weapon station can take an M2 or a Mk-19. Plus, it's got a bigger back seat, for, um...the kinds of things that you can do in the back seat.

Ah gimme a break. How's there gonna be a gunfight worth reading about at Barker Road, sounds to me like only one side has a gun. Come to think of it, if this clown gets his way kids in 3003 won't be able to read anyway.
Don't you think an assault RX-8 is a little worthless without a rotary cannon? Wank on!

Well.....let's see. We have about 300,000,000 Americans a 1/2 of which own firearms and maybe 20,000,000 carry firearms around right now, as we speak. This has been going on for....oh...well....let's keep it in the modern age, the last 50 years.
So far I have not heard about the road rage gunfight that moron was talking about. I have heard about the wacko criminals that he doesn't seem to worry about doing mass murder more than is tolerable, though.
If you figure odds, the road rage thing should have happened a several times by now.......but it hasn't. Wonder why......? Maybe because honest law abiding citizens do not turn into mass murderers.....even when they are pissed, probably by the stupid driving of the author of that opinion piece.

Grampster, for the past three years I've been trying to locate any instances of CCW permit holders having done anything wrong. I've found a few, but just a few. And I've only found two instances of someone being killed by a permit holder in an instance of "road rage." One was Shirley Chapman Henson (don't ask me why I can remember her name), who was charged with manslaughter. The other was a guy in Texas in 1996 who was found to have acted in self-defense.

BTW: I am having a sunroof put into my Ford Expedition, so that I can toss them grenades a little easier whilst I am on the interstate. :D

What I don't understand is how he can consider someone who is committing a crime to be a law abiding person?

Huh-huh-huh-huh-huh.....he said "piece"............
Sounds like something I'd expect to hear from a Wisconsinite.
I should know, I grew up there. Don't know what it is- great outdoor life up there, lots of hunting and fishing and shooting.........
Must be something in the water. Or the cheese. This from a midwestern state, too. Funny thing is, you tend to think of Wisconsinites as slightly dumb, God-fearing, cow-oriented people. Two socialist mayors and Jeffrey
Dahmer later.........hmmmm. I'd definitely want a gun close to hand if I moved back. (Yep, Milwaukee has in its past elected two openly socialist mayors. Charles Manson and Jabba the Hutt are on the ballot next time.....)
Seriously, though, not everyone from Wisconsin is like that.
Hope it goes through. I'll definitely get mine.

I got a good scare the last time I was in Lacrosse Wisconsin.
There were about 5 or 6 of us sitting on a picnic table along side a hotel in the dark talking and this old beater chevy was circling the hotel through the parking lot very slowly. It was too dark to see who was in the car but it was obvious that it was heavily occupied and that they were taking a great interest in us each time they went by. They looked like bangers and I seriously thought I was about to experience my first drive-by shooting.
The third time around the car swerved up to the curb and stopped with it's headlights shining on us. It's ticking engine slowed to an idle and a big blue cloud of smoke sweeps between us. Nobody gets out of the car. It's a stare down! :scrutiny:
One of our group was some kind of law officer (built like the hulk) and sez "I'll go see what they want". If he was packing he's an expert at not printing! He goes strutting right up there and leans half his body into the drivers window. :what:
Turns out they were looking for a place to eat their pizza but needless to say I sure felt deprived of my safety thanks to the law that night.
