The film came in today's mail, viewed it earlier this evening. Very powerful.

If anyone thinks that "it couldn't happen here", I suggest that you first read history, then perhaps think again, for all sorts of strange things, have happened here.

That's good to hear. I've toyed with the idea of buying it myself... now I guess I'm just gonna have to.

I might as well. Anyone else see it?

I just finished watching it. Some of Aaron Zelman's comments after the film is over are worth the price of admission.

I don't know if the piece will ever be on television as was intended by the producers. More of a narrated slide show presentation than what I would expect most TV viewers would sit and watch but what do I know.

At any rate, it was fun seeing my name roll by in the credits!

If anyone thinks that "it couldn't happen here",...
Having missed by seven months being subject to an Extermination Order here in the United States, I really bristle at suggestions that "it couldn't happen here."

On October 27, 1838, Missouri Governor Lilburn W. Boggs issued an executive order stating that, "The Mormons must be treated as enemies and must be exterminated or driven from the state, if necessary for the public good. Their outrages are beyond all description. If you can increase your force, you are authorized to do so, to any extent you may think necessary."

Shortly thereafter, the Mormon settlement at Hann's Mill was masacred under the authority of this order.

This order continued in force until June 25, 1976, when it was rescinded by Missouri Governor Christopher S. Bond. (I joined the Mormon church in 1977, missing being subject to that order by about seven months.)

Fortunately, as far as I know, no one was exterminated under that order after the 1830's. However, it did remain in force. (This order has a great deal to do with why the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is now located in Utah, rather than Missouri.)

(But, on the bright side, if all this hadn't happened, John Moses Browning probably wouldn't have gone into the firearms business. ;))

With that history, I took what happened in Branch Davidian massacre in Waco rather personally. Becase, "it happened here" again.

The news media completely played up Janet Reno's official spin on the situation--the organization was always referred to as a "cult." The building was always a "compound." Most of us would call the organization a "church." And the building, a "church" or "church building." Which building wasn't all that different from many Catholic Church facilities. And the people inside were always a "cult", not "the congregation of the Church, including women and children."

Yes sir, it can and does happen here.

1911Owner and anyone else:

"Yes sir, it can and does happen here.", was the ending of 1911's post.

In case anyone was wondering, take a hard look at things. Then think on the following. Is there really all that much to prevent THAT from happening HERE again, other than the fact that a fair number of the pople are armed?
If there is, then quite frankly, it escapes me.

No, I make no claims whatever regarding having seen BLACK HELICOPTERS flying about.

Pretty good film, well-narrated. Nitpicks include imperfect DVD integration (won't return to menu at the end) and interviewees who aren't looking at the camera/viewer.

I thought it was pretty good, well done. It wasn't what I was expecting. For some reason, I thought it was going to be a movie with a powerful message. This was more like a History Channel documentary.

Any chance of this being made available on Amazon.com?

No offense WHATSOEVER intended but I am retiscent to give a credit card number out to JFPO or any other organization I am not quite familiar with.

Wonder if they have this available at gunshows...

I'd put it on my book page (http://www.memorableplaces.com/m1garand/amazonbooksformyreaders.html) if it is decent and as good as they say it is...

Charles

PS: Speaking of books, Travis - are you for posting reviews that contain spoilers for Enemies Foreign And Domestic (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0972831002/ref=nosim/them1garaanam-20) ?
(Good book....)

CGofMP:

I understand dyour concern re the use of credit cards over The Internet, or with organizations that you aren't quite familiar with.

Re that, you can pay for the film, if you choose to buy it, via personal check or money order also. Go to www.jpfo.org, and scroll around. Mail addresses were furnished, as I recall.

Oleg Volk:

I received the casette version, don't have a dvd player, so I did not experience the "problem" you mentioned
