I just thought I would say hello. New to this Board but not the BP shooting. I shoot regularly with the North-South Skirmish Association. We shoot the CW era weapons in live fire competitions. We even shoot the big guns, cannons, howitzers and mortars. Real BP, no substitutes allowed. While a few of our members re-enact, We don't as a group re-enact. Many of our number do living history exhibitions. We are Skirmishers, not re-enactors. We like to say real men don't shoot Blanks.:D WE DO let the ladies shoot also.
If you are not familar with us, here's our web site:
www.n-ssa.net
It has a video if you care to watch.

Welcome to THR. Those really big black powder shooters(cannons, mortars, howitzers, etc) sound and feel like they would be a kick in the pants when they go off. Keep up the fun and get some of your comrades in arms aboard too.

What is the difference between skirmishing and reenacting?

Poor Devil,
We skirmishers shoot real bullets at paper and breakable targets. Paper for score. The team events are on the clock. Fastest time wins.
Re-Enactors recreate battles of the CW. Sort of like when playing army like we used to do as kids. When they shoot, they shoot smoke at each other. No real bullets for the obvious reason that they are pointing their weapons at each other. Most try to recreate actual battles or parts of battles.
Madcrate builder,
There is the CWSA in California. Not sure if it has anything up your way.

Welcome aboard to probably one of the best black powder forums in the U.S. though there are probably only a handfull of good sites. this is one of them. Then funny part is when you find another good black powder site. most of the members here are on those sites as well. a lot of good information here. There are a few writers as well as just some very knowledgeable people. The head Janitor is Gary. talk about a civil war history buff he is very very knowledgable.
