Histoy is better than fiction.

What General said "They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance"; and was promptly shot in the face?

I had no idea who said that, but I certainly LOVE your use of the term "War of Northern Aggression". That Gen'l shoulda had a better knowledge of those greycoated squirrel hunting boys!

"However, it was during the War of Southern Treason."

Them's fightin' words. :cuss: War of Northern Aggression is correct.

At what distance was the general from the opposition?

I can only find the War of Northern Aggression, or the War of Southern Secession in America. The American Civil War in the foreign press. And in later times simply the Civil War I can't find any historical reference to the War of Southern Treason

I thought the actual quote was:

"They couldn't hit an elephant at this dist..."

Is it an elephant or barn? He definitely didn't finish saying distance.

War of Southern Treason
The CSA legally (and peacefully) disengaged themselves from an agreement between "...free and sovereign states..." and it was the North that decided to hold them to the agreement by force.

Do you guys know what hit him?
It was a Whitworth rifle that fired a .45 caliber, 530 grain slug.
Similar to this one:
http://www.lrml.org/collecting/whitworth/wwc777.htm
Effective range was 1500 yards, and still lethal at 1800. I'm not sure what the velocity would have been from this rifle, but it was indeed tremendous... top that with such a heavy load... that was one feirce rifle to shoot.
It was fear of the Confederate sharpshooters (and Sedgwick's death) that slowed the Union troops down and gave the Southerners the victory in Spotsylvania.

Interesting thing to note: Whitworth was mainly a Cannon making outfit. Here is a page that has a picture of one:

Here is a better photo of a rifle:

*ahem*

We shall now cease to fight over again the battles of our ancestors in The Late Unpleasantness, and return to the issue at hand*. :)

Poor guy.. talk about not helping your troops' morale.

* and if'n y'all gotta do it, take it to L&P. It's been about a month or so, reckon we're about due for rematch. Gah.. I keep hoping if I watch enough Blue and Grey movies, eventually my side's gotta win once. Hasn't happened yet, but I'm hoping.

Could be worse. Could be a Cubs fun. At least the Boys in Butternut still got a prayer. :D:D:D

Ok George,
In Bullett besides the car handling, Steve McQueen demonstates he can also handle a firearm, name the firearm.

You mean the movie "Bullitt"? :scrutiny:

He uses a small, short barreled revolver carried in a shoulder holster.
What make of the revolver? Not sure. Could be a short python.
I do know more about the car though... er... both cars. Ford Mustangs, they used two. One was junked after filming and the other one was sold to some butthead. Where it is today, I am not sure. It is said that Steve wanted to buy it from the guy, but he refused to sell it and rather let it rust in a barn.
