One of the main characters was questioning the Act fairly strongly. Both sides were presented.

The agent of Islamic persuasion (I don't know what the PC term is for that) was pretty critical of the power of the Act in this regard. IIRC, the data they gathered from this led them to arrest the wrong guy at first too (I was surfing THR as I was watching, so I missed some of the finer details).

Many sheeple believe that what they watch on tv is true. This is a known fact.
I believe (my opinion) that a lot of the tv shows are propaganda fronts to brain wash the sheeple into believing the police have the right to exersize excessive force at a whim, and to illegally search for anything they want.
By brain washing the sheeple the powers that be will have less trouble when they get around to banning guns.
How many cop shows show a cop picking up a gun supposedly used in a crime and stating it was not registered. Even when the show is set in a state that does not require gun registration?
I can't count the number of times I have heard people in AZ gunshops say they just moved into the state and didn't know how to register their guns.
Conditioning, brain washing is what a lot of these shows are about.
Shows like Americas Most Wanted, Cop, Cop video shows, and the miriad of tv shows. I don't watch them anymore.

I watch TV for enterntainment & if I don't like what I'm watching, I'll turn it off or change the channel. In this case, I think you were better off falling asleep ;)

I don't think they correctly represented the powers granted by the patriot act either.
IIRC, they still need a warrent to search library access records to see what a specific person has looked at.

I'll plead ignorance here, but just who is stating that they "need break the law and discount human rights to do our job?" I gather that it is a character in the TV show.
In the real world, have people lost any of their rights? Have FBI agents been arresting those checking out books that are on a DOJ list? If so, is the arrest base solely on which books they checked out? I've seen a number of posts related to the loss of our freedoms, but I haven't seen much documented. I know that the combatants held in Cuba have been in legal limbo and that a few other test cases are going through the courts, but haven't seen much documented as to what rights have in fact been lost.

Ya know, I watch the tripe shoveled out over the airwaves by Eisner and co, but only because it's part of my job. The fact that anyone would watch anything aired on ABC* of their own volition is really quite beyond my understanding. 'Threat Matrix' sucks, hands down. It's nothing more than a paltry attempt to cash in on post-9|11 security paranoia.
As for the character that came out against the Patriot Act, whoopty doo. Most TV shows will do this, it's called setting up a straw man.

So, hypothetically speaking, you'd be completely cool with it if congress passed a law that allowed them to uniformly ban all guns via house-to-house confiscations, so long as it was unenforced? After all, if such a law is unenforced then no one's freedoms are being infringed upon, right?:scrutiny:
*'Alias' is, of course, the one exception.

No, I would be completely cool if you would explain what parts of the Patriot Act do you find offensive and why they are offensive. How do they impact our freedoms? The truth is that every law that government passes restricts us in some way. Why is this one of special interest?

The commercials I've seen for it are so bad I have no desire to watch it at all. I even changed the channel when the ad came on!
I think it was the cheesy looking explosions...I mean...come on. PowerPuff Girls have better special effects than that!
