Does the CZ .22 rifle SAFETY bother any of you?

I'm trying to decide on whether I want a CZ .22 rifle. Well, I do want one, but the safety bothers me. Everything else I have, the safety moves forward to fire, back for safe. The CZ is opposite.
Does this bother anyone else? Any other comments on the CZ .22s?
Thanks,
Steve

yes... but not enough to drop money on it to fix. If I were to hunt lil critters with it that might be different, but the occasional "wha?? .... oh yeah... its backwards" doesn't matter in plinkin' at stuff. :)
As far as other comments... scary accurate, great sights, weight/balance is close enough to a "real rifle" it don't feel like a toy, and darn pretty -- best .22 for the money out there I think.

No
The safety is very solid. Direction of travel doesn't matter for me. You just need to buy MORE CZ's so that they are the majority instead of the minority in terms of usage.

It bothers me. I have my nervous system trained to know that "backward is safe, forward is fire." I don't need something screwing up anything that simple. I've been thinking of buying one, but if I do, I'd never engage the safety.
That being said, if you're a lever action 30-30 user, "rearward: fire" would be something like cocking the hammer and would feel natural.

As Jay said, my Father would have loved it.
He could not see why the safety on a hammerless gun should not move back to Fire, just like cocking a hammer.

Like most of you, I own and shoot many different kinds of guns.
Eventhough the procedure for using the safety on my AK and using the safety on my CZ-75 is quite different, I have no trouble switching between the two.
I have a CZ-452 and I think it is about the finest 22 that the average guy can afford.
It is deadly accurate, solid, and it is sized for a full grown adult.
The safety thing with it is little more than a novelty.
If that is the only thing that you can find wrong with one, then I suggest you buy one and try it.
Trust me when I tell you that it will grow on you.
Especially when you get dime sized groups at 50 yards with the cheapest bulk ammo you can find.:D

I must have at least two dozen different safeties located in different places and moving in assorted directions on my guns.
It's just not an issue with me.
All I care about is if it is easy to reach, does it stay on until I take it off and does it work.
My favorite is the safety on the Steyr SBS rifles.
They do everything but fry shrimp.
(That option is available in europe, however.) ;)

The safety on my WMR American is a little stiff, but it works for me.
I wasn't looking for a WMR and really only bought it for the wood. Wish I could find the full-length pics of both sides. Oh well, here's an idea of what it looks like (if you ignore the glare.) JT

I have a CZ452 Training Rifle. This has a European style stock made from beech, a 24-inch barrel and outstanding open sights. Although I have scoped it -- it has a dovetail for rimfire scope mounts -- the scope only makes the target easier to see, not the gun more accurate -- something it has in spades. The safety is counter-intuitive and you have to completely release your grip to move it, but I have gotten used to it. Unfortunately, it is out of commission except as a single-shot. I did not use it for a couple of months, leaving it in my safe, and when I went to use it, the magazine (which I had left inserted) stuck in it! I found this difficult to understand -- it is not rusted, the catch simply will not move to release the mag -- as did the CZ America technical guy I spoke to on the phone. Due to some other personal considerations, I have not gotten it fixed yet. Despite this, I would still highly recommend the CZ lineup. For those members who have kids, I cannot think of a better first gun than the CZ452 Youth Rifle.
