Weekend fun with my Barret M82CQ pics and video:)

Took out the Barrett M82 CQ this weekend for some fun. The range i went to only had a 100yard range but i decided to do some controlled shots and also some rapid fire shots to explore the our limitations combined. I was quite impressed actually. All the talk about how the M82 is not "accurate" had me worried. I do personally think that the shorter 20" barrel provides maybe better accuracy due to its shorter stiffer barrel and less resonance or vibration as the barrel recoils in and out. It definitely does not have the velocity to make 1000-1200+ yard shots but i think for the 0-800 yard i prefer it to the M82a1. The chrome line chamber and barrel are also a nice plus:)

I fired ten shots controlled slowly about ten to fifteen seconds apart prone off the bipod at a 100yards. The ammo used was from www.50BMGsupply.com which was non-match AP reloads. Again i was quite impressed. I had about 1.5MOA of vertical spread but close to or less than 1MOA of lateral spread on the shots. I have no doubts that with match or better quality ammo it would be even tighter. I have previously chronod the AP reloads from 50bmgsupply.com and they chronoed ok at best, there were about 30-40ft/sec deviations from shot to shot.

Here is the pic from the controlled shot target:

Then i decided to do (2) five shot strings rapid fired from prone position . My goal of the rapid fire was shooting at least one shot every second and seeing how my groups end up or what kind of target i can narrow my shots at a 100yards. Looking at the counter during editing it shows that five shots were fired right at 4 seconds. This is the first time i had shot the 50 in a rapid fire setting so did it in two 5 shots groups with 5 min wait in between. Here is the pic of the target of the rapid fire prone :

Then to end the day with a bang my buddy asked me if i would dump a magazine with the M82 off shoulder. I thought about it for a second and said why not:) So here is the video:

Awesome. :D

that was damn cool! i bet that was very $$$$$ to empty a mag like that , like 50 bucks in 5 seconds!

That looked like alot of fun :D I wish I could afford a set-up like that. 'Bout $9000 i am assuming?

It is a lot. The rifle by itself is a little over $9k but i also have a Nightforce 5-22x50 with NP-R2 scope and a set of Badger rings on that puppy. Over all i have over $11k in that setup:)

i have over $11k in that setup

That is a great way to spend 11K . Nice rifle.:D

^^^You only live once so you might as well enjoy it:)

I don't know why some people talk about the accuracy not being all that good because the barrel is not long like the regular 82. Barrel length has nothing to do with it, velocity to some degree on big cartridges like this one. What kind of velocity loss do you get from this one to the long barreled one? I would rather have the one that you have in the close quarters model although I don't know what close quarters you would consider using it for but I bet it would be fun.

Great video. Very nice set up, enjoy it in good health.

Cool video. Especially the prone. What a devastating weapon.

Hows the recoil? From the video it looks fairly tame.

Great vidio!! Sounds like someone called the law:D

Recoil is on par with a 12GA, shot one a few years ago, and its a total adrenalin rush!!

How loud is it?

I have chrono'd my CQ and with Barrett factory ammo it is right at 2500ft/sec which is about ~200ft/sec slower than the longer version. With ball/AP ammo at that velocity it goes subsonic somewhere around 1200 yards.

The accuracy has nothing to do with the length of the barrel it has to do with the fact that the barrel recoils in and out like a tank to compensate for the recoil and that definitely is not the best thing when you want precision. Think about all the crap we do to our guns, free float the barrel, free float hand guards etc etc to remove as much barrel resonance and when you have a barrel that goes in and out it definitely reduces surgeon type accuracy.

What all the Barrett semis are intended for are delivering massive amount of hell on a small area in a very rapid fashion. Although only at a 100yards you can see that even rapid firing controlled from prone i can deliver 10 50 BMGs in an area of a few inches. I would be hard pressed to see someone drop 3500 grains of lead in four seconds in a small area :)

Recoil is not bad, but it is the combination of recoil, muzzle blast and noise that makes it completely different that any other rifle i have shot. I can tell you that the blast is unbelievable. Someone standing 10-20 ft to the side and they feel a thumb in your chest like you are being punched by a little toddler. People say the recoil is "like a 12g shotgun" but i mean a 3"-3.5" magnus 000 buck shots, not #8 Win Lites , lol

I didn't realize those were that expensive! Now I don't feel so bad buying my Erma!
