Waning firearm interest?

Do any of you "get into" shooting/collecting guns for awhile, and then go to another hobby for awhile, just to return to guns again? I am constantly switching hobbies, and always find myself comin` back to shootin! What other hobbies do you enjoy?

I never lose interest in my guns. The only other activity I could call a hobby is looking for a new job that actually offers health and dental insurance.... The security company I'm with still hasn't used me on an armed site and doesn't have benefits. I guess looking for gainful employment could be considered a hobby of sorts....

Mine vary considerably, even throughout the day.
For example, I get away from and back to my hobby of eating 2-3 times a day and sleeping at least once every day if I can manage it. :D
Seriously, my interest in shooting is pretty much constant but the attention and time I can spend on it varies.

Mine "cycles". Guns, Gun "Projects", Cars (and trucks)(Which is mainly to keep them running), Computers, Reading.
Of course, alot of my reading is gun related and I like to do research on the guns that I have over the computer.

I've always gone back to guns but music, hanging out with friends,
working 2 jobs have all made inroads at one time or another.

I've found that firearms go well with any hobby, you just have to choose the right gun to match the hobby. A Glock 17 for SCUBA, a Tu-Tone SIG Sauer P220 for the drags, a .17 HRM for the Salt Flats. It's all about fit.

Never! There is some variation in area of interest. For example, I am mainly a S&W revolver guy, but sometimes I veer off onto an interesting path, like Swiss straight pull rifles, or the Winchester 52D I got today, or American .22 target autos; this helps keep things fresh - but day in day out, S&W rule my heart.

Guitar playing, bicycle riding, reading, cooking (and eating) everything as much as possible from scratching, including bread and tortillas, anything to do with the great outdoors, such and fishing and hunting.
I want to get into metal working and take welding at the local community college. I like to tinker in my little shop - on gun and non-gun stuff.

With the exception of cooking, shooting is the only interest I have which results in refining a (somewhat) useful skill. I think that's why shooting has held my interest for as long as it has.

In younger years it was an intermittent hobby . much as anything due to possession of very little. Last 25 years tho ... it has been and is what I would call my ''core'' hobby ... prime if you like. With that goes reloading. Spent a lot of time thru 80's and early 90's shooting competitions regularly ..... now purely recreational stuff most of time.
The attention I give it depends greatly on time available and motivation - tho in one sense, as I carry 24/7 it is with me all the time!
Other main hobbies are motor cycles ... mainly just riding (that's all but done now for 6 months! :( ) ...... and building and flying R/C model airplanes (again .. not much more flying for next 6 months! :( ).
Just moved loading bench etc and should be well set up for a better organized set-up ...... so this winter has got to see much more reloading and thus also, load testing.:)

I go through my competition phase, I go through my theme collection phase and my tactical training phase but am always on guns.
Supplemented by banjos (because guns and banjos made America great), action figures (they have guns), computer games (with guns), photography (taking pictures of guns) I float between, but guns are a constant.
Reeeehaw!
And knives. And flashlights. And black cordura. And carbon fiber.

Hello Friends-
Naw, I NEVER get tired of quality firearms. But, I do
collect old coins and paper money. I use to collect old
(pre 1975) baseball cards, autographed baseballs, and
team hat's. But, a darling beauty salon operator made
me and offer I couldn't refuse for the ball's; and another
dude shelled out $$$$$$ for the cards, but I still got the
hat's which I wear occassionally.:uhoh: :D
Best Wishes,

Many of my non-gun hobbies are either related to guns (model machining) or things that guns make more useful (backpacking.)
But no, once I got into guns I really never have gotten out...

It ebbs and flows. I've been building the paintball gun collection, so real guns are taking the back seat. Of course, here in CA, we're limited quite a bit, so I'm really just waiting to get out of here before I start buying cool stuff again.

I wandered away from shooting for well over a decade to take up computing and work on my career. I've been back home in shooting for the larger part of a decade now, and don't plan to leave again.

I tend to drift into model rocketry occasionally.
Specifically, the high-power variety that the BATFE is now on a rampage on. Right now, I'd swear the firearms are less regulated and my C&R was way easier to get than a current LEUP (low explosive users permit) even though the ammonium perchlorate propellant we use isn't even an explosive (!).
We had a bill in the senate to correct the error in the "Safe Explosives Act" that crippled the hobby. It was stalled on the senate floor by (big surprise here) Schumer and Lautenberg. Small world, enh?

Was always into a bunch of stuff.
Sometimes all at the same time.
I get bored very easily.
Guns have remained a constant over the years though. When ever I feel a little down or frustrated, a trip to the range picks me up.
Been a tough week, them Yankees startin to head this way, including the ball team to Miami.
Time for another trip to the range.
Come on my little darlins, time to go to the range and sing for daddy.........

i started owning guns june 2001, simply amazing what 2 years will do. I've got a great collection of handguns and rifles. Only problem is i have no car, so getting to the range is a real PITA. This summer, however, was the "summer of tacticality" spent most of my summer money on guns, ammo, airfare, and training.

I have a number of hobbies, which I cycle between like many others here. Firearms, though, are more of a mission to me. I “got into” guns only a couple years ago, so that mission is in high gear, especially since California’s gun-control movement has been rapidly accelerating during the last few years. :(

My main interest change every few years. Right now guns are on top with hotrods and drag racing in second. When cars are on top guns are a close second. I may go to sleep reading car magazines and wake up craving guns.

Collecting fountain pens, or working my old Chevy is a hobby. :uhoh:
Photography is a hobby, collecting cameras is a hobby.
Guns are as much a part of my life as breathing.
A blood test would probably test out .15% Hoppes #9. :scrutiny:

Can't say my interest in firearms ever fades away... sure, I have other things that interest me. But shooting and the hardware involved remains a constant, well... obsession! :)

Anymore, guns are about my ONLY hobby of substance.
Does the fact that I've spent oh, probably $5,000 to $7,000 on the this calendar year alone give you any indication of that? :)

Like J Miller said, I don't think guns are a hobby to most of us as they are a part of our lives. That part may get larger or smaller but it's always there.
Moving from Kali to Las Vegas I got back into guns and bought more in the first month than I'd bought since '94, plus a complete reloading set. I'm having a blast and I only been here a month - haven't even found a good range yet!
My other interests are my motorcycle, reading and spending way too much time here on the internet or playing games.

My interest in guns has faded here and there. Sometimes I am not as "into" guns as I am at other times. I used to be very heavily into Amateur Radio. That hobby kind of went down the drain and I got out of it completely. I enjoy professional baseball and football and usually spend some time with that; reading books about baseball, fantasy league baseball, watching games, I even have a card collection.
The thing about guns, to me is that there are so many different aspects of the hobby. Handloading, competition, history, modfications, bullet casting, muzzleloading, hunting, rifles, shotguns, handguns, training.................... If I ever find myself getting bored, within a few days I will read something on here that reminds me of something new to play with and off I go again. Right now my main interest is revolvers and bullet casting. If I had been drawn for any big game tags I would be hunting right now. If that was the case I would have spent the last few months working up my hunting loads and practicing with my rifles. Winter is usually reserved for my interest in handguns. The weather here is perfect for shooting every day. I usually spend a week or so with every handgun in the safe before it gets hot again. This past year I discovered formal training. I took three classes at Gunsite, one at Frontsight and just signed up for another one today. There is always something to do in this hobby and that is what makes it fun for me. Boredom only lasts a few days until the next avenue for exploration presents itself.

A lot of my fading interest in guns is due to the economy, I don't have nearly the disposable income that I had even a year ago. that and music comes first. even if I only go to the range once a month and sell of most of my guns I'll always have a pistol and a couple of shotguns around.

Call me "Captian Short Attention Span", I'll normally have 2-3 projects going simultaniously and "take a break" from the to do some handloading. I mainly shoot socially. I don't think I've ever gone to a shooting range to shoot alone so how much I shoot mainly depends on how often friends and family are shooting.

ever since i was 16 and driving i always loved cars. when i turned 21 and went to visit my uncle, him and my dad got me into guns. to me my firearm hobby was never constant sometimes i was into it then i would always look into cars. i also like to hit the clubs with my friends on the weekends and go biking. my firearm hobby is somewhat new to me i've only been with it for a few years now. but the way i see it, it's one of those hobbies that won't die out.

Coin collecting, hunting, knife collecting, pretending to work-out, reading, camping, fishing, metal detecting, computers, gold prospecting, flashlights, golf, etc., always seem to wax and wane. Family and firearms, however, remain constant.
Now, twenty-some years ago I really had only one hobby, but I've grown up (and gotten older) since then. ;)

I always come back to guns. I have several other hobbies that I'll keep in the rotation. I'll get into photography for awhile, maybe a camping spell, games, whatever. But really my interest in guns may wane for short amounts of time when I'm buying gear for some other obsession.
I just like gear. Its that simple. I have more guns than I can afford to shoot. I have enough camera equipment to sink a battleship, but I don't take as many pictures as I should. My Dad once said that I've spent so much on lenses and gear that my photos work out to cost me 50 bucks a shot. I guess I'm like the guy who has a bass boat with all the trimmings, constantly upgrades it. Catches his bass goes home and figures out the bass cost him $175.00 per pound.
I like gear, I like shooting and those things will aways bring me back to guns. I find just having a good well rounded firearms collection almost as satisfying as shooting itself.

The want never wanes. Only the time. With the lack of time came the cancellation of reloading for many years, which is one of my favorite pastimes. Shooting also has suffered, though while mostly recreational in the past, I must now MAKE time to go to the range to keep myself current with my CCWs. Therefore this MUST is also a blessing, because it also gives me an out for doing what I love best.
My truck club takes some of my time as does my home theatre. But as I get older, there doesn't seem to be enough time that isn't taken up by work.

Although I do experience ups and downs when it comes to how often I train or buy, sell or trade guns, I never lose interest. I also don't let my interest in firearms consume me and what valuable little free time I have to myself these days.
Otherwise, I enjoy traveling, both in the US and abroad and I think I have again been bitten by the bug to build scale models. It's been a few years since last I've engaged in that...and with the prices for kits these days I see why!

Guns have been pretty intense for about 9 years now, every since I turned 21 and got my first handgun. Reloading as a hobby too, of course.
Lots of other hobbies have come and gone:
Flying (private pilot) Haven't flown in over 3 years, mainly due to lack of funds.
RC cars and Planes: cars aren't exciting enough, planes are a bit to expensive considering they are used for about 2 minutes before I wind up wrecking them. :(
Guitar - not really a hobby, I play almost daily, but I don't 'practice'.
Computers are the only other thing that hold my attention as much as guns do. But, computers I do for a living too, so I'm a full on geek there.
Could almost count my Jeep as a hobby... :)
Does reading & Posting here at THR count as a hobby? Or is it just a cleverly designed time sink??? :D
