Greetings, I need some advice. I just purchased the Leupold 1 piece mounts for the Rem 700SA. They are too short for the 1500. I was told they are the same mounts. Should I have purchased the Long action mounts?

jimmyraythomason May 27, 2009, 07:58 PM What caliber is the Howa? hilltopper55 May 27, 2009, 08:04 PM Thanks , The Howa is 223. When I tried to install the Remington 700 Sa 1 piece base, it left the rear hole exposed. It just looked too short. jimmyraythomason May 27, 2009, 08:08 PM The mount only uses 3 screws. The rifle is drilled for both 1 or 2 piece mounts. If the front 2 screws and one rear screw fit ,you are good to go. Use a plug screw in the unused hole. I have the same mount in LA on my 30-06 Howa 1500 Lightning. hilltopper55 May 27, 2009, 08:10 PM Thanks for your help. That will work. Dr. Tad Hussein Winslow May 27, 2009, 08:17 PM Yeah, it's the same (Rem & Howa). Probably just that extra vestigial hole you don't use. Samgotit June 7, 2009, 08:27 PM I missed this thread when I posted a new one today. I'm under the impression that a Rem 700 LA base will fit Howa. See this: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=454959 Edit: figured it out.
