$690 for a G19?

Hey guys, long time lurker, brand new poster. I've been shooting regularly for 4-5 years, but I just recently turned 21 and I'm looking at getting a Glock 19.

I would really like to support my local businesses, but I've been to three gun shops in my area (South King County, Washington State) that are asking around $690 for a straight up G19 (fixed sights, 15 rnd mags) :what:

Is this reasonable at all??? This seems ridiculous to me, I was expecting something closer to $615 or $600, but like I said, everyone seems to be asking the same price.

I'm currently in college (U of W) and I really can't afford to spend an extra $75, even for something I love :p

Any thoughts?

$690 is a little steep. My dealer here sells them for less than $600 out the door. He currently has a G19 compact for $543.28 OTD.

I try to support my local small businesses whenever I can, But I VERY rarely buy from local gun shops because they can't no scratch that they won't compete with academy, walmart, gunshows, or face to face transactions. I feel like my local shops are thieves, they want $350 for the crappiest mosin nagants and $600 for some of the better ones! They sell 100 rounds of remington 9mm for like 42 bucks when walmart has it for like 25. you take them a 600 dollar gun and they offer you 250 for it and they will not work with you on price on new or used guns so I go in occasionally to browse but the way I see it is if they are not willing to compete for my money and sell me a glock at or even close to academy's(or bass pro for that matter) price then they can't have my money, even for the things they need I won't stay local just to get robbed That being said I'd go to Academy they are $529.99 supposing they have Aacademys in you area. Sorry for the long rant but my shop just gets me all riled up!

ccw_steve, info for shows for us is here:

Note that you have to be a member of WAC to buy guns at a WAC show. You can join up on the spot if you want. Bring your CCW/CPL or a DL and $12 for a BG check.

Check the Buy/Sell/Trade forum right here on THR. I know TopGunSupply.com is a THR member who just today was advertising G19's in two different colors for $499 plus $18 shipping, if memory serves.

Buy one online. $690 is way too high. Even with the transfer fee and shipping it will be a lot less. $600 seems to be the going price for one WITH trijicon night sights. I just checked gunbroker and you can get one slightly used with night sights and 3 mags for under $550. A NIB one is $600 there. I'd suggest going with the upgraded sights. It's usually a little bit cheaper to get them on the gun than paying for them later. Save the rest of your money for the ridiculously priced "cheap 9mm" ammo. :D

Here's a NIB on GunBroker with a Buy Now price of $499 with $15 shipping.

I just bought a G26 from the guy and he's a reputable seller.

They are going for about $520 at every gun show (VA), and the last show one guy had a sale for $499 cash.

Look around online - you should be able to find $550 at least. Or buy used - plenty of people buy a gun and rarely shoot it.

I also have purchased from that seller, and he is top notch.

$690 is outrageous! Can you say GOUGE! :cuss:

If it has not been mentioned before, I think this is pretty high. ;)

If you buy online, be sure that state sales tax (if your state collects it on an out of state/Internet purchase), transfer fees and shipping don't eat up any savings. Check these first. Before doing this, however, expand your search radius of local gun shops a bit.

Before I bought my G26, I called around to gun shops near Oklahoma City (about 85 miles from here). One had a G27 (I would've settled for a 27 or 26) that he was asking $745 for! Outrageous.

489 NIB here in western Colorado. G19 G26 G27 and most others in stock.

Yep, the best deals are going for $489 in my area as well. $529 is the norm. A friend of mine just bought a NIB G26 with Trijicon sights for $589.

Just saw a used G19 for $399. If I were in your shoes, I'd wait a little longer and go that route. For the price of that $690 NIB example, you could get a used G19 for $400 and have enough cash left over for a very cool used Ruger Single Six in 22 LR/22 Magnum for about $250.

Or 23 rounds of 9mm!

I ended up buying a NIB G19 for $499 before tax...pretty good deal compared to the other shops around my area. I had to drive about 45 min, but who cares for that savings :neener:

Thanks for all the great info guys!

Ahhhh.....the fresh smell of a new pistol :D

And honestly, I would have no problem at all getting a used one for more like $450. The ads are FULL of one-owner Glocks that got shot twice and shelved. Spend the rest on some practice ammo.

I payed $560 for my brand new G19 w/ factory night sights at Sportsman's Warehouse. It wasn't even 6 months ago so I don't think you should be paying that much. Try buying from a cheap online dealer and pay the $30 for a transfer fee at your local gun shop.

Go to Federal Way Discount Guns in the future and avoid all the high priced craziness you get at most other shops in the Sea/Tac area.
You did OK though, Federal Way's price would be maybe ten bucks less.

Champion Arms was the first store that quoted me $690. I really like those guys, but that price is insane!

I DID end up buying from Federal Way Discount Guns, those guys always have good stuff in stock.

I also called sportsman's warehouse in Federal Way, they said no go on the G19 (3+ weeks wait time).

Nice to see that not all UW students are complete left wing anti-gun crazies :neener:

I just talked to Karl from Fed Way Discount by phone after I posted and he said their glock prices had gone up 10 bucks, still a good deal in todays market and they do manage to keep things in stock.
Karl is their gunsmith(and a friend of mine) and if you ever have a problem he'll work on that gun for free when you buy one from them. Not many stores do that.:D

I have no problems with folks making money but the only way to put a stop to this kind of abuse is to refuse to sit still for this kind of gouging...DON'T PAY!!! Go on the Gun Broker site. You'll find NIB G19s in the range of $500 & change. If you keep an eye out you may just be able to get a good used one in like new condition for less than $500. I paid $400 out the door for a used G19 last year that had been fired less than 50 rounds. Only had the 10 shot mags but I fixed that fast enough.

Wow. $690 for a G19 is up there, even by today's prices.

But I VERY rarely buy from local gun shops because they can't no scratch that they won't compete with academy, walmart, gunshows, or face to face transactions.

You had it right the first time, most gun shops can't compete with places like Academy and Walmart on prices. It's the difference between million dollar inventories and billion dollar inventories . . .the guys who spend billions get better deals and can pass them along to customers.

That's because you went to Champion Arms.

They're ridiculous.

Go to Federal Way Discount Guns - they're the best in the area.
