I was at my local ffl who is a pawn guy and he mentions in passing that he has several expresses in vg to excellent cond he would let go for 160 becuase he has like a dozen. Is this too good to pass up? I did not ask him to pull them out as I have a few already but heck I got to thinking 160 is a pretty good price as thats OTD. Whacha think guys.

I'm not an express fan, but that price would be hard to pass up. Glad I'm here and not there! :D

Got Pics?
If someone was looking, that seems reasonable to me. I picked up my last one for $175.00.

Not big on the Express either, that is a good price.
Just a thought this fellow , sounds as if he is a buyer, maybe networks with other pawn shops, or whatever. I'd act dumb.. mention police trade -ins or wingmasters ( if that for example is what you'd prefer). See how he reacts, he might have a line for example and buying in quanity pass savings on to you.
My old pawn buddy passed away, but he'd buy this way and had some deals.

Last gun show I was at in Sept I ran across three 870's police units. One blue with 18" barrel marked Wingmaster for $159 and the other two were parkerized 20" barrels for $169 . I don't consider the express at $160 as anything special . Not overpriced, but nothing special. :D

re1973, I am trying to work that angle he seems to know all the good deals I am slowly trying to get him to pass them my way, always while doing other buisness with him.

I have seen ONE 870 under $180 here and it was a RAG.
I will buy the first useable 870 I see for $160.

I would buy one in a second for $160. I don't know if that is a great price or not; I am not tuned into the used shotgun market. But, I could use a hunting shotgun right now and the price sounds good to me.
I have an Express that I have owned for years. I have hunted with it, and shot trap with it. I have no complaints with it at all. I fairly recently put all the go-fast tactical mall ninja stuff on it, so I need a new hunting gun.

If you think this needs to go to the for sale section please move Mr. Moderator, I don’t want to break any rules. However I could talk to this guy and see what kind of deal he would give me if I bought a number. Furthermore I would then offer the same deal to anyone here that was interested. I would go and inspect his inventory and negotiate a good price. I bet if he has a dozen and could get rid of eight or so in one wack he might give a good price. Anyway I would be willing to do it just to get a better deal on a shotgun. Give me a shout if you’re interested.

That would be a decent price here but no screamin deal.

This looks more like an opportunity for folks to get a good deal than blatant hucksterism, so until I or another Moderator note otherwise, it stays.
Getting a working 870 for $160 could range from a good deal to a Golden Opportunity, depending on model, condition, and availability. #6, my most recent purchase, ran slightly more than that but still out the door under $200.
Here's a few things that should affect price and desirability in used 870s, besides condition.
WMs are worth a bit more than Expresses.
3" capability ups the ante a trifle.
A recoil pad in good shape, either factory or retrofit.
Pretty wood.
Target models, especially Trap grades.
Choke tubes.
Vent rib barrels.
Accessories like mag extensions and open sights, add little.
Condition, inside and out, is crucial. A cruiser vet is oft near new inside, but outer condition can range from so-so to ugly. Most hunting 870s see less than 1000 rounds in a lifetime of use, barely a good breaking in.
Most old 870s, except for target guns, are far from being shot out. The things last incredibly. And quite a few are closet queens.
HTH....

Well guys I have to drive up to Chi-town today for my Grandmothers 80th bday party. Monday he will be open and I will see what kind of deal he will work and what kind of condition we are realy talking about. I will post it here and if anyone is interested they can contact me. Looking at a bunch of shotguns sounds like fun to me!
Sam- I need to move out to your neck of the woods you seem to find better deals than anyone I know. In reality I know its not just location, you know how to Bargain and you carry cash....
Have a good weekend

Dave, you sure are right about those cruiser guns. I have one here I got for a hundred bucks and its down right ugly outside. Rust and pitting, the barrel has cancer all down its length. But on the inside just like new, and it shoots great. Kinda like a mo-ped it will get you where you want to go you just don't want anyone to see you on it.

Mike, your post is fine. :)
Prices can vary widely from region to region. That's an outstanding price here - maybe not somewhere else. Used expresses run about $200 here in South Carolina.

$160 doesn't sound bad, but I'm not sure if it is at "too good to pass up" level for an express. I recently picked up a PD trade in wingmaster for $150 at a local gunshow, which isn't horribly unusual around these parts - will usually come across them a priced similarly a couple of times a year at the larger shows.

Aaahhh...what's a used 870 Express?? Never seen one...well, almost never.
Saw 1 (one) 20ga today @ the gun show. Admittedly, it wasn't a very big gun show but...
That was really why I went, too; looking for HD Shotty, preferably an 870!
Saw 1 Mossy 500, black, 28" for $160, kinda beat up though.

Mike, I bet it shoots like brand new, right? A good candidate for the bake on finishes talked about here a week or two ago, or camo paint.
Enjoy...

Around Atlanta Georgia you would be hard pressed to find *any* 870 stickered at $160. The best deal I've seen recently on a fair condition 870 Express with factory 28" VR barrel was $199 at a pawn shop accross the border in Oxford Alabama.
I'm always amazed at the wide variances in prices by region.
