Many, many years ago I was going to buy a gun. Something fell through, I don't even remember what, and I didn't. I was bugged by "what was it?" It had multiple barrels, like a pepperbox revolver. It could have been a Colt COP, I'm not sure.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I'm misremembering?

COP (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=american+derringer+COP) :p
There was also a Semmerling, a magazine-fed, manually operated pistol on which you pulled the slide forward to eject and feed rounds.

The 4 barrelled COP was not made by Colt. I think American Derringer picked them up for a while but while they have a 4 barrel listing, there is no product to show for it.
I shot one a few rounds back in the 1970s. It was a hard kicker and not very accurate, how much regulating could they do on a multi barrelled pistol?

FMJ and RPB Cobray and a couple others marketed a "pepperbox" on cheap steel stampings and a derringer frame.
They were hand-turned in 5-shot .410/.45LC or 10 shot .22LR, seems the base company Leinad, is out of business.

COP Inc, Torrance, CA USA is what's on the side of mine (sold years back, but I still have the inventory photos).
Cobray made a 'derringer-style' break action based on the Mossberg Brownie but with a few 'twists'. It had two barrels and two cylinders, one in .22 and the other in .380. Depending on which cylinder was installed, the upper or lower barrel would fire.
Mossberg Brownie is a .22lr 4-shot pepperbox style.
These are about the only ones I know about.
