Uline.com has rifle shipping boxes but you have to buy at least 15 of them at $2.41 each.

That means I need to buy 14 more rifles....:D I don't think my wife would go for that...

Just buy 1 rifle and use the box that it comes in. :)

What you have to do is buy a rifle and have it shipped so that you will have a box to ship your other one in.:neener:

Call a local trophy shop and ask them. I throw away 48" long boxes that columns come in all the time.

Find a refrigerator/big screen TV box that someone is throwing away and re-cut it to the size you need.

I got mine from Home Depot. Just go to the lumber section and buy some plywood, hinges and a hasp. Build a box line it with foam and you're good to go.

The Container Store has 52x8x3" boxes that are perfect for rifles.

I like the idea of free from a trophy store.

I've never heard of the Container Store. Is it mail order?

Your local art / picture frame shop may be able to help as well. Ask for any mirror boxes that are long enough for your rifle. Usually well padded and very sturdy.

A gun shop has plenty that they discard.

Midway USA sells shipping boxes, too.

Free is better, though. But the Midway boxes are made for what you want to do.

Check with local sign shops, the boxes for the large roles of paper and vinyl they use in plotters are good for shipping rifles.

Also check with music stores, Guitar boxes are good for shipping guns as well.

LOTS of products are roughly rifle shaped, you'd be surprised how many different businesses throw away perfectly good rifle shipping boxes.

Oh and of course there's always gun shops ;)

Window treatment store.

Blinds, shades, etc. all come in boxes that might be properly sized.

I've walked around with guns in boxes so marked and nobody blinked an eye.

+1 Container Store.
Or go to Wal-Mart around 11pm when they are stocking and help yourself.

Here is what I do. Go to any UPS store and buy a sheet of cardboard. Then make a triangular box. Its very easy to do, very sturdy and a sheet of card board that is 4 feet by 6 feet is about $4.

Buy an M1 Garand from the CMP. It comes in a very nice cardboard box with "egg carton" foam inserts.

You can trim a large box to size or tape a couple boxes together.

I would just buy a relatively inexpensive plastic foam lined gun case and use it. Call it the cost of doing business. If it is for repair, then hopefully you will get the case returned to you.

.....reuse the one they shipped the box you bought in.

The Container Store is a national chain that sells boxes, shelving, bottles, just about anything to store things in. The nearest one to you is in Miami.

I don't see the long box listed on the website, but ask them at:

I bought a box of fluorescent light bulbs (the long kind) that might fit a rifle.

Just make sure it's a decent box. Something flimsy won't hold up in shipping. Make sure it's packed so that the rifle can't shift around, or it will end up poking out of the box!

I always toss those rifle boxes up in the attic so there's always one on hand.

I make my own, with heavy duty cardboard, glue, and packing tape.

Go to Lowe's et al and ask for a water heater/weed whacker/etc box. They get some big cardboard there. Cut the ends off and wrap it around your rifle. Tape as necessary.

When you go to ship, they may measure length, width and height. They always come up with a very small number when a side is just a fold. Most of the time, you save money when shipping the above compared to an intact box.

I've used golf club boxes - depending on the length of the gun. They are very sturdy.

Remember when shipping with UPS, if you ship in a previously shipped box they will not pay on any damage claims. It's BS, but that's the way it is.
