I was checking out the stock of my russian capture mauser, and noticed a single rune next to the waffenamts on the stock. it is not in ink, but there is very definate imprint of a single rune. The stock is an early type stock. the rune really doesnt show up well in pictures, I found it when shining a flashlight across the stock looking at the stamps.

I know the rune typically goes back to a labor camp, BNZ. Did they mark the stocks too? Look just above the 3rd stamp, the vertical part is easiest to see in natural light.

The crazy part is the my other 98k mauser is a yugo rework that I have had for 15+ years, and there are 3 waffenamts left on the gun (The missed grinding them off). I never looked them up until now, All are number 77. (Rear sight, Sight base, and bolt extractor).

I can't see it. Could you take the picture into MS Paint or Photoshop and outline it or circle it?

I seriously see absoluteley nothing at all, in either picture.:scrutiny: Are you sure it is not just a dent, the color of the wood, etc?

It must be an Elfin rune. They only show in the moonlight.

Maybe a better photo is in order.

"Try on Monday night. A rune in June by the light of the moon will be a such a boon that soon you'll swoon," he crooned.

The wee, tiny dent that looks like a '4'? I think you're seeing a Germanic rune that's really a wee dent and a bit of grain. No numbers in runic alphabets.

Try to copy what you see onto paper. I saw something, but I can't make it out.

I can't make anything out, either, but if it really is a rune and you want to find out what it means, this may help:

http://www.sunnyway.com/runes/meanings.html

As you are probably aware, runes did not just represent phoneme. Each one also had occult meanings and powers, much like Tarot cards. This was why the Latin alphabet was adopted in all the countries they were used in shortly after those countries were Christianized.

Anyway, it wouldn't surprise me if the rune pictured was Algiz. This rune was popular among Norse warriors as it supposedly offered protection from physical harm.

No rune, but I think I saw an image of Elvis.

That's definitely not Elvis. That's the Virgin Mary...........and she's eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
