I remember seeing a web page in the fairly recent past of a gunsmith that specializes in the tuning of lever action rifles: slicking up the actions, trigger jobs etc. I believe his main customers were the CAS folks, but it looked interesting to me at the time. I think I saved it on my other computer that is now DRT. Anybody got any ideas of who does that kind of thing ?

Martin J. Ahlman (http://www.coyotecap.com/new_page_1.htm) aka "Coyote Cap" has a fairly strong following for work on just abotu anything the CAS crowd wants or needs.

the other name that comes to my mind is Steve Young (don't have a link to his site anymore) over i think around the Beaumont/Port Arthur Tx area. but i think he was some what of a "winchester '92/94 guy" so if you are wanting to slick a Marlin he may not me your best bet (i shoot/shot Marlins thus explaning why his site was a victim of the file cleaning i did a year ago).

you maybe able to get better leads if you ask over at the SASS (Single Action Shooter Society) website's forum HERE (http://www.sassnet.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi) though i don't know what the "atmosphere" there is right now, i haven't really been frequenting the board since around teh begiining os the year, and the last time i was there, there was a whole "cartload of BS" going on about some folks getting banned for dubious reasons (don't know details won't venture a guess b/c it didn't directly concern me).

well i hope that helps some

Hey, 444-

I recently called and spoke with Steve; of www.stevesgunz.com in Texas, IIRC. Seemed to be a good ol' boy REAL familiar with levers, and I've decided when I get one from EMF (Rossi) it will be shipped to him first.
Apparently quite reputable, and knowledgeable 'bout these things.
Good luck!

Both these guys look interesting.
I will read through the stuff today. The work is cheap enough that I could actually afford to send them my gun.

If its a Marlin, slicking up the action is easy to do yourself.

And the Trigger Happy Kit (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=16630&title=TRIGGER-HAPPY+KIT) is a drop in that leads to a very light and very crisp trigger that must be tried to be believed (buy one and try it, Brownells no-questions-asked return policy means you're only risk is the cost of mailing).

Failing that, here's (http://www.leverguns.com/leverguns/leversmiths.htm) a pretty good list of lever action smiths.
