338/180 Ballistic Tip/H4831
Has anyone had any good luck with H4831 pushing the .338 180gr. Ballistic Tip?
How about IMR 4831 or IMR 7828?
Or any other favorite powder with this bullet?
I am shooting it out of a M-70.

I've always had good luck with one of the 4895's when using 180's and 200's in the 338's I've worked with.

My .338 is a .338/06, but not much different than Magnum version. I'd suggest that even with .338 WinMag, that 4831 is too slow for the light weight bullets.
The .338 WinMag is actually a "small" case for this bore diameter (compare it to .340 Weatherby, .338 Rem Ultra, or .338 Lapua Mag.) and surprisingly, works better with some faster burning powders. This is mentioned in two manuals I have.
Like R-West, either 4895's or perhaps the 4064's, Varget, or Rl-15 will likely be much better choices. Top velocities will be with either Win748, H380, H414, or RL-15.
The 4831's will work, but you'll be looking at lower velocities and compressed charges, and still be far below nominal working pressures. Accuracy could suffer as a result.
