CCW: one pistol year round, or the pistol for the season

This being my first year packing, and winter coming up, I was thinking that it's going to be pretty easy to cover up my piece. Then thinking farther ahead to spring and summer, the question of packing with shorts and lighter weight clothing on is becoming a concern of the future. Just how many of those packing here have one pistol for year round or do you change up with the seasons?

Of course I might be making up a reason for getting another pistol

thanks

I have always dressed around the gun regardless of season.

My primary carry has always been some sort of a 1911 style, BHP, J or K frame revolver, this goes way back before a ticket to carry concealed was dreamed up. We have those really humid summers here in the South, full size 1911 still carried.

Why the different guns...because I can, I like to sometimes use a revo as a primary or BUG...or both, no reason.

But hey, more is better, seasons, gun a month, sun came up...whatever go buy another gun works for me.:)

Depends on what kind of dress you can get away with or want to get away with. I wear jackets year round when I'm riding my motocycle so I could get away with having a pretty big gun MOST of the time. But I'd LIKE a pocket gun for those special occasions where the bulk is a problem.

I have several officer sized 1911 variants...carried in a Milt Sparks VM2H IWB. I have carried Officer models since 1986 when I got my first one.
I have tried and carried others.....an airweight jay frame most prominantly. But the Officer's is the 90 percenter......the one I am most comfortable with.
Carried it in hot, humid Floridian summers, Vegas heat, cold NE winter's...just comforting to know I have 8 big and heavies at my disposal with at least one reload.

I carry a Commander year round. Like re1973 said, you learn to dress around the gun. I think its better to try to stick to one gun, in the same place most of the time, rather than keep changing, especially if you dont practice with them all, all the time.

This whole summer I mainly carried my Colt 1991A1. Concealed it by wearing an untucked button down shirt.

In summer, I sweat so much, any IWb would drown... so it's a P32 most of the time then. And then I have the other times gun...

In winter, I could bundle up and carry four or so without a problem I guess if I really wanted to, that might be fun...

my year round is a glock .45

in the summer it is a g36 (iwb)but in the winter the g30 (owb)will be on because of the 10 rounds on hand w/o a reload needed.

i could and have carried the g30 in the summer(iwb), but when i got the 36, it felt more comfortable IWB, so it shall be. only gave up for shots but carry spare mags anyway so really lost nothing.

I would bet that if you were to compare the poll results when the polling is over you would find a strong correlation between those who live in hot and humid climates voting for a gun for the season, and those who live where there is a more temperate summer voting for a single gun for year round carry. I could be totally wrong here, it's just a prediction.

MaterDei (in Houston who voted for a gun for the season :) )

How heavy is your winter coat?

How long would it take you to get to your carry piece, when it's carried IWB?

I know one guy who keeps a pocket holster in his coat, and who moves the gun from IWB to coat pocket when he puts on his coat.

I practice with my CCW weapon extensively, so the
correct answer is: the same gun for all seasons.

Summer temperatures, humidity etc do have a lot to do with it IMO. I have to dress real light in summer and generally try and get by with snub .. even at times downsizing further.

Once the extra shirt is there, like now .. it's back to P series again ... wish i could find a way to have that all year round.

Two for year around (Stery M40 and Sig p239 in 9mm). What I carry depends on where I'm going and how I'm dressed.

For the last 5 years it has been one LW Commander. That is going to change when I get enough money in my gun slush fund. Would like something a bit smaller for special occaisions.

4 seasons in California: mudslides, earthquakes, riots and fires.

P7M8 year round unless my holster and/or belt size is incompatible then it's the Beretta.

I think that one gun all year in the same location is the best way to carry, but that is not practical for most folks. I tend to have a couple of combinations to fit most common situations. A good tailor, stiff belt, and quality holster go a long way in increasing your carry options.

Ruger SP101, Same gun, just change holsters with the change of the season. Have tried different carry guns but always come back to the old stand by 101!!!

once I get a 1911, that will more than likely be my always gun. until then, I carry my 92F anytime that it's cool enough to wear an untucked workshirt/coat. if i can't get away with anything other than a t-shirt, it's MK40 time. with both, they're always IWB ~4:00

I'm also seriously concidering getting a snubby to keep in my coat pocket at all times. because during the depths of a michigan winter, I'll probably have my coat zipped, and presentation would be difficult from IWB.

I love guns so I wouldn't mind getting several to fit my outfit. Seriously...it depends on how the day is, what you're wearing, where you're going...etc. Personally, my compact type M Beretta does me just fine no matter what, but if I can get a Glock 26 or GP 100 Ruger in a 3" -- I love having options.

I do my darndest to pack the most effective weapon. I try to dress around it, but sometimes it boils down to my P32 or nothing at all.

Guess which I choose?

Tams ..... even if it's way cooler on your mountain top in summer :p.... what works for you re carrying two? I find with light clothing even the one snub is a potential nightmare at times!!
