I'm looking for a fixed blade carry knife, just about any style of knife will work so long as it is light weight and relatively thin.

Tricky thing is I need one that has a sheath that when on my 11o'clock will point at a 45 degree angle torwards my right side.

any recommendations are appreciated.

That is why I just built my Swedish Lauri knife. I's similar in design to the Moras. I ordered the blade from Ben's Backwoods and built the handle and sheath myself. Just pick a blade that will be legal to carry in your state and suited to your purpose and build around it. It's a nice weekend project.

DL Knives Bird & Trout.
Have Lifters do a cant on the leather sheath.

Spyderco Mule, and whine, beg, plead to have Tom Krein make you a kydex sheath.

Mora.
Dirty Bob has an excellent thread here in non-firearms, and includes some sheath tricks.

Just three ideas of many. Others will chime in with more.

That is the way I carry my Rinaldi Matrix every day ( and have for the past 3 1/2 + years ). I also have a BM 210 Snody , that can be worn in the same position.

What price point are you looking at ? There are plenty of options , though with some you may need to get someone like Eric at OnScene Tact make you a kydex setup for it.

200 or less, I could see going a little higher if its a custom job.

depending on what blade length and what steel you are looking at , you will find a bunch of options in that price range. even some customs , check the for sale by knifemaker on bladeforums for a host of selections.

You mentioned thin , thin as in blade steel or overall slim of the entire knife ? Did you happen to have a blade length in mind ?

My B&T would be a custom knife for $150. Made of CPMD2 and heat treat by Bos! Kydex is included with the crossdraw option.

But I ran my hand into a table saw last week so it will be 2-3 months probably before I can grind again.

I believe the law in tn allows for a 4" blade but I'm not 100% sure (maybe someone here knows).

as far as overall width is concernde I mean it more for the handle then the blade.

Valkman, I feel your pain, I put my hand into a grinder once, I'm sure a saw is far worse but never the less being unable to do the things you love to a hand injury sucks.

I've been eyeballing a couple knives that I really like on line but won't order due to 6+month waits on them (I need it sooner then that).

http://brockblades.homestead.com/knivesII.html

I was liking the combat options line, espeacially with the g10 handles, however if you are unable to make such a blade let me know what you can accomplish as to something similar.

as for sheath however I wanted a black leather cross draw sheath that went between the belt and pants.

let me know what ya think.

I feel like an old boot carrying plain old skinners and 'Ka-Bar' type Bowie knives all these years!

Nice work guys! Excellent knives!

I do need to make a run out your way sometime , if nothing else , just to visit.

In the 3-4" I have the Bird & Trout

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo80/DLKnives/Black_BT2.jpg

And a Landshark but it is a hunting knife. I think the B&T would be a very good edc knife. I can get the leather made the way you want it.

In more of a combat blade the smallest I make is a 5" Fighter

http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/oo80/DLKnives/5_inch_Fighter_BLKMicarta.jpg

But it may be 2 months or more before I can grind again. Sniff. :)

Thank you Team. I can't even carry a EDC Fixed blade. I cant keep one long enough to carry it. This week i am going to finish "MY Damascus Folder finished the parts tonight. This my first folder. So I won't sell it. It will be all mine LOL. Revolver My Warranty is simple, you break it under normal use. I Promise I will fix or replace it as long as I am able to work in the shop. Plus if for any reason you are ever unhappy with it. Send it back to me for a "FULL REFUND" Because I don't make a knife I wouldn't love to own

you guys are making it difficult to decide who I'd like to make my knife :P.

when it comes down to it I'd like a knife with a 3.75 inch double hollow ground blade and a 3.5 inch handle. I've gotten to handle one of the brock blades my friend has and really like the ergonomics of the handle so closer the better.

You're correct.

39-17-1307. Unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon. —

(a) (1) A person commits an offense who carries with the intent to go armed a firearm, a knife with a blade length exceeding four inches

when it comes down to it I'd like a knife with a 3.75 inch double hollow ground blade and a 3.5 inch handle.

I can't stand short handles so all of mine, including the B&T, come with a 5" handle. The big Fighter has a 6" handle!

So the B&T has a 3 1/2" blade and is 8 1/2" overall length.

for concealed carry cross draw a 4" inch or less handle with a 3" blade seems to carry concealed a whole lot easier for me.

After 3+ years of carrying this way , I completely forget it is there till I need it. Never snagged on anything or got in the way.

I find that like a 1911 , the grip is the hardest part to conceal :)

Steel: .152 thick D2 Paul Bos Heat Treat
OAL: 6 5/8"
Blade: 2.9"

I must say I've never made knives to be concealed or thought about shorter handles for that. Guess I need a new "Tactical Line"! :D

June 1, 2009, 09:55 PM
Wow.

Late to the party, as usual.

And here I was going to suggest the A.G. Russell Woodswalker.

Not sure that can compete with the custom work above, though.

JTW Jr.

I don't have a single "tactical" model , I think of mine as concealed carry utility. :) I don't even consider tactical an adjective to use to describe any knife.

I did think about calling a model a " taxi cab skinner " ( for the cab itself , not the driver ...see they are using saturns here now ?)

Revolver Ocelot

yep, I wanted a short low profile handle to help it be concealed better, this is the only problem I find with any of the knives above.
