a little background. this was purchased by my grandfather back on January 31st, 1977. he fired it only 6 times with .38spl to check function and that was it. my grandfather whom i was very close to recently passed away of a heart attack on December 26th 2008. a few months before when he was in town he gave my older brother his old S&W service .38spl that he carried when he was a police officer as well as lied out a few of the hand guns he still had.
some being a old german luger with holster and 2 mags, a colt .38spl with pearl grips, a H&R .38spl and a few others.
the one being that ive had my eyes on for years and that he promised to me at that time was the S&W Combat .357 M66 in stainless. since his passing its been hard on everyone. well my grandmother found his box he had everything in and surprised me yesterday with the old S&W.
it included the original box, receipt, warranty card, cleaning kit, S&W knife brochure as well as a brochure for S&W ammunition and its specs. and his original OWB leather holster he had purchased at the same time.
this will be a part time carry gun because my grandfather would have wanted that. he never believed that guns should be safe queens but need regular trips to the range to keep up your skills.
anyways here are the pictures of my new S&W to add to my collection.

Yes, these guns will last generations.
Firearms are also good investments. They will sell to the most willing buyer. A few weeks ago, I sold my Ruger Old Army at a gun shows. MY wife was surprised that I came home with $400. What was nice was she was also finally convinced that I wasn't throwing my money away with the guns I buy.

Beautiful 66, congrats!
They will not make them as nice as that again. Condolences on the loss of your loved one. That 66 is a very special keepsake.

thanks everyone, yes as i said in the letter my mom read to my grandfather before they pulled the plug i can only hope to become HALF the man he was and i would be happy with my self. he was a STRONG person who ive always looked up to. someone who would always be there to help when you where in need.
i look forward to get out to the range and go through some rounds. like i said he would never want to see it sit on a shelf, but rather me carry it on my hip or have it on my night stand to protect my wife and my self.
You Will Be Missed

That is a beautiful firearm. I only wish it had come to you by some lesser means. Enjoy that peace, it will last for generations if cared for properly.

Oh wow.....a NIB P&R Mod66, with some family ties....and all the accessories to go with?
I'd be flipping out right about now.
Beautiful firearm. May you fulfill his wishes for many years with it.

so far i have yet to make a range trip, been really busy trying to save money for a service for my grandfather, wedding for myself and my soon to be wife, and a honeymoon. i hope i get a chance to get out and put some rounds down range some time soon.
i scrubbed the cylinder and everything else today as well as found another set of grips, might be the originals, for its. currently its been my CCW sidearm the last few days with some Winchester 110grain JHP's which is what my grandfather used when he had it. put a smile on my face when i get ready every day for work and get to strap it on my hip like he did.
