Need M1A scope help

First of all, shut up. :D Yeah, I know I don't use scopes much, and generally abhor their use. Let's stick to the issue... (grumble grumble)

Platform is an M1A
Mount is ARMS #18 w/#22 30 mm rings
current scope is Super Sniper 10x.

Would be a great platform for bench shooting and load testing, but I would like to use the setup in some Any Rifle/Any Sight matches. Due to the rings (won't move on an M1A mount) I don't think I can position the scope in such a place that I can go prone and not have the scope hitting my eye in recoil.

Should I get another scope? If so, which one? I'd like something rugged with target knobs and a fine crosshair or mil-dot. Again, it'sa 30mm.

Thanks in advance!

Steve

Why not throw on one of those cheepy butt pads to move your eye away from the scope?

Not a bad idea, Carnitas, sometimes the best solutions are the most simple. I'll at least try it.

Ok, if that doesn't work, does anyone else have some ideas?

Oh, and Soda, FYI, the last Any/Any match I shot was a 3x600 yard match and I came in 2nd place, with the scope shooter beating me by 4 points out of 600. I still shot a High Master score that day, and that's with my Service Rifle AR with iron sights in .223. He had a 24x powered scope on a 6.5x284. Even if I shoot the AR again, he won't beat me anymore. the truth is, I have someone interested in this scope and I'm trying to find out if I can use it at all before I sell it.

Steve, I worship the ground upon which you fire prone.

Well, the slip-on buttpad; extra padding inside your jacket, maybe, and a padded headband made from an innertube to protect your eyebrow. Maybe a slight bruise, but no cut.

Cheaper than a new scope.

Gents, thanks. This will no doubt get the job done, since I hardly ever use a scope anyway.
