I know that the Hornady dies for autos use a roll crimp with the floating crimper. I bought a seperate crimper and all of my problems went away. Call Hornady and talk to them. 1-800-338-3220

The only crimp you should get is a light taper crimp, just enough to take the case mouth bell out and make it straight again.
Touching the bullet, but not cutting into it.
Don't confuse straight-wall auto pistol calibers taper crimp with revolver roll-crimping.
The .40/10mm headspaces on the case mouth, and you most certainly don't want to crimp it smaller then .421" - .422" or so, as measured with dial calipers.
SAAMI spec is .423".

Look on the die box to see what it says. If it does not specifically say TAPER CRIMP, then it is a roll crimp die.
Why Hornady puts out all standard dies in roll crimp, even the cases known to need taper crimp, is beyond my comprehension and a poor move on their part.
They only offer 8 taper crimp dies that come singly, not in sets, and they do not have a seating stem. To see the 10MM Horndy taper crimp die
