Didn't know whether to put this here or in reloading.

What is the cheapest chronograph that is decent quality? And preferably portable. What kind of features should I look for?

I have had a basic ''Shooting Chrony'' for some time ... it is still in one piece! IIRC that is about as cheap as they get and this is around $48?? Anyways . IMO good value. Made in Canada.

I don't bother to get more than speeds .. no need to have the upmarket version .. a string of five thru this is usually all I need to know.

Do a search and you'll find it stocked many places ... expect they have their own site too.

I second the Chrony for a cheapie. When you finally accidentally shoot it, they will fix it for around $25.00. At least that's what mine cost.

Shooting Chrony: inexpensive, but by no means cheap. ;)

Love mine.

Any sources I can check besides MidwayUSA and CheaperThanDirt for a "Shooting Chrony"? The cheapest one I found was around $75-$80 plus shipping.

mpthole ..... Cabellas is about same but these guys

Seem to have the basic F1 for $64.14! Not sure what shipping would add. if tho you spend $100 with them .. maybe something else you need .. shipping is free. Worth a look maybe!:)

I've had mine near 3 years I think and it was not much over $50 - but I got a good deal I reckon.

P95, I ordered one from them today. Shipping was $7 to Virginia.

BTW, I checked with Shooting Chrony about a refurb unit, but they were out.

Thanks P95! I'm looking at their website now.

And thanks mtnbkr for posting about the refurbished models... I was going to pursue that route as well, so you saved me some time.

At LEAST get the Master line. Otherwise, when you shoot the chrony, it'll cost you the price of a new Chrony. With the Master line, it costs about $25.

D&R Sports (http://www.dnrsports.com) seems to have the best prices on shooting chronies (F1 for $57). As others have said, I'd get the master version of whatever model you decide on.
